G80 M3 or outgoing W205 C63 S? A good dilemma to have!
Greetings M3 fanatics!
I will be in the market in the Summer of 2021 for a new vehicle to replace my ZHP. I'm torn right now between a G80 M3 Comp or a C63S....I really dig the way the C63 looks but I am also a firm believer that the new M3 will outperform it. I'm just not entirely sold on the looks of the new M3 so I will have to see it in person. What do you guys think? |

I think if you have *any* concerns that it will irk you when an AWD G80 buries your C63S on a track and straight line then you should get the M3. But, if you want one of the last performance V8s get the Benz (shudder, I don’t like the C63S or any Benz).

Aint gonna lie. Even though I own BMWs, I would absolutely drive a C63S if it came with a manual tranny.

I took a C63S out for a spin in my decision process... Love the low end grunt and the sound from the V8 and the coupe with the wide rear arches and panamericana grill make it a great looker today still... the sedan looks are meh literally identical to a C300
Interior is fine, visually pleasing but from my seat time in G8X last month quality is def higher in the BMW.. then there's the dated infotainment (not MBUX even in FL W205) I didn't find the ride harsh in my test drive in s+ and race modes, in fact I found the X3M to be firmer.. The greater low end torque did make it feel livelier off the line but I can't recall precisely now. good thing about G8X is some of the tricks (multi stage traction control. lap timer software, etc) from AMG are carbon copied over

Thanks for the opinions. I'm so damn torn. Part of me really wants the Biturbo V8 last of it's kind (since they will be moving to a 4 cylinder in 2022), but the other part of me is that loyal BMW owner. I've always loved BMW's. The only MB I have had the chance to experience was my Dad's 2018 AMG GTC. That car was fantastic and really changed my opinion about Benz's.
I guess the bottom line is I will have to drive both back to back and then make a decision. One thing is for sure, C63S' are super hard to find anywhere. |

I’ve never owned an M car (G80 will be my first), so I can’t make a comparison but I did drive a 16’ MB63s for 2 1/2 years. I have to say, I really enjoyed the car. Living in LA, it was a more than capable and comfortable daily driver, even with the performance seats. It had more than enough power for me and the exhaust note was intoxicating. I deleted my secondary cats and muffler delete. My only real issue with the car was the transmission when using paddle shifters. A lot of the time it wouldn’t allow me to select The gear I wanted or there was a delay. Note, my car was a pre mid cycle car and I know they made changes to transmission. It’s very sad if they do go with a 4 cylinder. It’s one reason I’m going with the G80. And I’m one of the weird people who actually like the new grille

If you test drive both back to back, it will be immediately clear that the M3 is the slightly better driver's car in all areas - steering feel, more nimble, and offering more levels of control. This was true for the F80 gen and will be true again for the G80. The c63s is all about the sound, looks, being a more luxury-focused cruiser.

One more quick question...
Would it make sense if I drove an F80 and compared it with a C63? if I like the F80 better then it would make sense that I will prefer the G80...Right? |

I did a pre-trade on my M2C as I wait for my M3 to come in.
I've never been a merc fan, but...I most recently took a C63S for a test drive since I wasn't sure if my M3 was going to be here on time to not lose out on the tax saving, so if it wasn't, I was looking at something I could enjoy for the summer. This specific one was tuned with downpipes/exhaust etc... and it sounded sooooooooo good. It has been tempting to get an AMG ever since. Just hope my M3 gets here in time before I change my mind. =) |

The only thing the c63s has over any m3 is the sound. That's alot of money and compromise for sound. The m3 is quicker, more capable, better riding, and doesn't have the acres of plastic on the dashboard and interior that the c63s has.

I had a W205 C63 sedan. The power train was nice, the ride was firmer in comfort that the G80 is in sport+.
Mine was a lemon too…it stranded me at a light and had all kinds of electrical issues. Got rid of it after 4 months of ownership and haven’t looked at MB since. |
