Current Markups

Hi All,

Would really appreciate any feedback on current pricing in the DMV area. I almost pulled the trigger on a build with a local dealership. The build had a 4K markup (rear wheel drive competition), MSRP was 76,000.

Curious as to know if this is typical for the current time we’re in. I know the wait time have been crazy long and allocations have been sparse.

Most major cities charge 2-5k over on orders.
And 10-15k over if the car is at the dealership.

Just varies

All the NoVA dealerships are at MSRP. You just have to wait for your allocation which could take months to a year.

For Maryland, Passport is MSRP, Rockville does a 5ish k markup.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I’ll have to check out the NOVA dealerships or the Passport one. I went to the one in Silver Spring.

I pulled the trigger last week! Really appreciate all the inputs. Ended up going with BMW of Fairfax - straight msrp and I ended up saving on taxes too . The long wait begins….

Nice! I called them when I was doing my search and the CA I spoke with was kind of a d. I ended up with Alexandria and Passport.

You should consider getting on more than 1 list otherwise you'll be waiting forever.

That’s a really good point. I actually ended up at Fairfax because their Google rating were 4.5+ while Alexandria was less than 4. When did you get on the list and did they mentioned how many people in front of you?

When I spoke to my sells person he mentioned that there were 5 people in front of me and that I needed to wait until 2023 allocation rolls in before I could be placed in the buyers bank - so I’m waiting in line to get in the actual line, crazy times lol.

11 ahead of me when I put my deposit early February. I think I'm number 10 or something now, it's moved slow.

Oh wow you been waiting for nearly 4 months already. Guess I'll be lucky if I can get allocation by end of 2022.

Hopefully things speed up for us all, I know a customer has been waiting for an allocation at a different dealership since September 2021

Alexandria was MSRP, they did say they will go for 2-3k above but had gotten mine with MSRP with no wait on allocation.

I think SA sees that you are in the market to pay ADM, they will push hard to get the most out of you but if you did your homework, they will likely settle for MSRP or slight above. depends on how you approach SA, think you can get it at MSRP.

No wait on allocation??? :O when did you order? I place an initial deposit with Fairfax on May 18, at the time there was 5 people ahead of me. I checked in yesterday with my sales person and was informed that the dealership only received 1 allocation this month for a base model.

On August 14, 2021, I walked in passport sterling and the SA practically had "take it or leave it" with 5th on the waiting list with 2k markup. They told me they would waive markup if I put down a deposit for allocation(it says I was looking at around Feb 2022). I just walked out.

On 2nd try, I returned to my old dealer, Silver Spring BMW; my SA was no longer working, and I had a new SA assigned to me. When I tried negotiating a discount for extra tax buying in Maryland, SA was willing to provide a 2k discount, but they had no current allocation. I was told the next allocation would be mine, but they cannot guarantee when they will get the next one.

I debated, called Alexandria, called it super luck, told me they had allocation, and I could take it if I came by the next day. I got to the dealer the next day; no hassle as they said they could do MSRP flat, explaining some of their SA do charge 2-3 k on M at their dealer.
No argument made a deposit, signed the contract, and my build was in the following week.

Unfortunately, the vehicle arrived at the port in early October due to a missing module. Still, I waited until the last week of December to finally pick up my M.

Given the current situation, I think I was super lucky as I've done my due diligence on every little detail to fight against markup, but in the end, nothing was needed.

There are more than one D's in fairfax. pretty much made up of an entire crew with so much pride up on their ass. Had such a bad experience back to back and would never even consider going there for anything.

Silver Spring and Alexandria, both had such pleasant experience.

Miguel at Silver Spring told me their Violet Jahre Edition M3 has a $50k markup. Avoiding Silver Spring at all cost now.

I live in MD and was forced to get my allocation out of state. All the MD dealers either had markups or insane waitlists. Started my search in May and contacted 30 or so dealers up and down the east coast searching for MSRP and reasonable waitlist length. Got on four waitlists. Thousands tied up in deposits. Just got my allocation 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, I'm just going to wait until things cool down. I was blown away that they were marking up a Jhare edition $50k up. Might as well look at a used GT3 or R8 V10 at that point. Dealerships are going to be extinct in the next 10-15 years anyways
