The difference is just too small if you don't like dark wheels. But definitely still better than the black ones.
It take your point. The shine on the bi-colour 26s is indeed subtle, and I wonder how they'd look after a week of brake dust or wet weather! I definitely can't get on with black rims on Tanzanite (the wheels just get lost in the arches), so I think I'm going to have to try and see the 26s in person on an overcast day before making a final judgement on how well they'd perform in day-to-day life.
That's partly why I went with the Orbit Grey Bi-Colour 25, as the black 26s blend in with the tyre and car too much for me - not enough contrast

The move to darker rims is a trend for BMW in particular because of brake dust. J.D. Power consumer survey results in the U.S. a decade ago cited brake dust as the most prevalent ‘defect’ afflicting BMWs. So in order to improve their new-car reliability standings, rather than compromising on brake pad compounds, BMW began offering vehicles with darker rims. ‘Problem’ solved!

That seems backwards. I see way more brake dust on the black parts of my 825's than I ever did on the mostly silver wheels on my F82. It's way more of a "problem" on the black wheels.

If you get the CCBs you can't get the 825s

I like the contrast of the 825's with the darker color. I haven't really seen the 826 bi's in person to know how light or dark they actually are. If they can have some lighter tones they might be good as well.

Go (much) further back in time than the F82 .. to when BMW only offered silver (meaning all silver) rims, except for the E39 M5 and the E46/E9x M3. Most owners didn't bother cleaning their wheels properly, so they either became discolored over time or stayed charcoal from brake dust build-up.

Fast forward to the rim designs you see on 3, 5 and 7 Series sedans and X1 through X7 SAVs .. not a silver barrel to be found, and only a hint of polished silver on the rims' faces.

Most people feel the brake dust is even more of an issue on the black wheels than on the silver. Are you arguing the opposite?

These images just about sum up the dilemma I'm having with spec'ing Tanzanite: side on, I think you can just about get away with the bicolour 826s, providing of course they're clean and you have a bit of sunlight to catch the spoke surfaces; but if you look at them aslant in real life (that is, from the kind of angle represented in the top two pictures) then the black sides of the spokes almost completely take over, and the wheels look virtually shadowed out under dark coloured arches. I love the design, and agree with other folks that the 'webbing' effect is classic 'M'. But dark or even grey complexion rims really get lost in poor light under these kinds of greens and blues (and overcast days are not exactly few and far between here in the UK!). Which is why I'm leaning toward the 825s, just for the sake of the consistency with which their brightness would help the rims to 'fill out' the arches and thereby offer some contrast--regardless of whether the sun is out--with the paintwork.

Agree. Same reasoning for why I spec'd the 825s on my BSM build!

Right. I'm equally confused. It's way more obvious when it makes a shiny black wheel into a dull grey than with it makes a silver wheel a slightly different much less obvious shade of silver.

I think this becomes a philosophic discussion here. Why should a glossy but dark wheel show dark dust more apparently than a silver wheel that more obviously will lose its original bright shine? For both reasons (glossy shine an/or silver) did I decide to go for the orbit grey 825 in summer and the 829 in winter. Both have a matte surface from beginning on.

On a separate note….are we still in the dark on the weight difference between an 825m vs 826m wheel (if any)?

Just got my car this week. 826bi has plenty of silver showing without looking too bright and kinda outdated. 825 reminded me of e46 M3 wheels I had 15+ years ago.
See below, I think there’s plenty of contrast but subtle. This pic was taken in the late afternoon with the sun going down and no direct sunshine on the car

Same here -- and I had (6) E46 M3s over the years. The optional 19" rims with the polished faces were killer, as far as I'm concerned. In many ways I've configured my G82 to pay homage to my favorite E46 M3 of all, a Carbon Black coupe with those particular rims. Some may consider the look dated; I think it's classic.

For those wondering (like me) about the weight difference between the 825m vs 826m wheels, someone sent me this. I know we originally got the ambiguous message that the 826m's were the lightweight option according to one of those M videos that BMW released….but if you trust these numbers, it looks like they're almost identical. In fact, it looks like the 825m's may be a touch lighter. Obviously the treadware difference plays a small role….

After reading these posts, I tried to change my build to 826M, but was told by my SA that the build was locked due to production scheduling.

Closer look at 825M orbit grey.
I've gone orbit grey 825s on my G82 TBII after a similar dilemma👍🏼

It turns up this week so hopefully it was the right call!

I find the 825bi much brighter than the pictures in this thread are showing. Here's a pic that shows them off.

I'm a fan of the bi-color 825s. Several friends have commented positively on the look, and I don't have any regrets. I wanted the wheels to stand up to the bright paint color and not get lost. I think I succeeded.
