I am going to the track, my original tire got a nail and I repaired it but I don’t feel comfortable using it on track, there is no star rated available in the market.

I will replace both front tires with the same type

I added pictures of the pattern for the star rated (on my car) and the non star rated. Looks a bit different but it’s the available one.

I ran Mercedes Cup2 last summer in the front and regular Cup2 at the rear, these were the older 180TW model, the tire guy told me that to trash around on the track I wouldn't see much difference, the new * spec might be a bit more durable on the shoulders but they saw some destroy two fronts in a days also so..

If you would plan to drive 8000 street miles + only occasional track days I would maybe like to find the * spec but if mostly to turn laps I would take what I can find without too much worry.

The star is no where to be found

However, the star with run flat is widely available same exact pattern. What I know is they run flats are not good for high performance.

Unhappy

[QUOTE=McLaren720s;29468390]Pretty bad day at the track today!

Pouring rain. 50F degree weather. Fairly worn PS4S* tires. Very greasy due to first rain in 3 months.

1. I spun out violently coming out of a turn mostly likely applying too much throttle. It felt like the rear just snapped from underneath me. Ended up doing a 360 after probably over correcting. This is with XDrive and MDM.
Did not hit anything luckily. Stayed on pavement the whole time. No damage. Heart attack imminent!

2. Two laps later: red flag. Guy in brand new Supra hit the concrete barrier at about 70-80 mph. Severe impact. Front of car completely destroyed and up in smoke. Most likely hit a puddle of water and lost control. Car totaled but driver safe

Yeah, pretty bad day. Went home. Don't feel like tracking for a while.

Know the feeling of taking a pause from the track. After a collision on track last year. Just starting back this spring at VIR... Done a few autocross events, going Thermal in April for the advanced M school, then maybe I'll be back int he saddle again, or maybe not.

Go slow. Work on consistency and building up confidence at 6/10th driving pace. Cap yourself to 8/10 on the few laps where you're pushing it and don't exceed it. You can still have fun leave plenty of margin for safety.

Been tracking the M4 since 2021. This thing is fast but way heavier than anything. Front tires won’t last 2 track days.

Suspension: JRZ RS PRO with front and rear remote reservior. SPL front lower control arm, tension arm, tie rod end, rear control arm, rear traction arm and rear tow arm. Running -3.9 front and -2.7 rear camber.

Tires: tried cup2 they are trash. Been working great with Nankang CRS. I don’t want to run R7 unless I am going competition.

Brakes: endless MX72plus pads, oem rotors, SS brake line, Castro’s SRF

Engine: Eventuri Intake, and JB4.

What are you thoughts on weight reduction of 150-200lbs on consumable lifespan with the G8x platform?

200lbs isn’t significant at this weight unfortunately.

This comment without any more explanation or experience sharing is pretty bland..

Sorry, but dropping ~ 5% before driver on a high HP car still north of 3500lbs is not going to improve consumables (for simplicity pads, tires).

Even at slower tracks the straight line and corner exit speeds the g8x can reach is a tough challenge given the weight.

Are you running a square setup? What wheels and sizes?

Also, how do you like the eventuri? Probably going to get one.

Running 275/35/19 and 305/30/20. I am not sure if I want to run square in the future. I feel like I won’t get as much as grip from 305.

I also have a set of 18 to put. I need to get the AP brakes to clear. The stock calipers are awfully close.

Eventuri intake it’s one of the few actual intake that increase horsepower just due to the increased airflow volume turbo inlet. My turbo respool time has significantly decreased from that. I really like it.

I would be interested in how to save 200lbs while maintaining street driving comfort for this vehicle lol.

But I feel like tire consumption will be the biggest issue for this platform.

The other problem is power, my 2018 M2 weighted in the same ballpark as the CSL but with around 230 more HP in the CSL, your coming immensely hotter in the corners and accelerating way harder, not a lot of cars with around 600hp have reasonably long tire wear anyways.

I immediately saw the difference when I tracked the 718 GTS I had last summer, that 500-600lbs less made a huge difference but I still went trough a set of rear tires in a couple days at my pace.

Totally agree. No matter what to do, prepare good enough budget for the tires. That’s why I choose Nankang. 40% cheaper than cup2 lol.

Are you AWD or RWD?

How are the endless pads? Thinking of replacing the EBC Bluestuff with something with more initial bite.

Mine is RWD.

The endless pads are awesome. I had EBC yellowstuff, it burnt off and overheated itself on day one. They are in the trash bin every since.

Yeah, yellow stuff are more of a street pad. Blue is supposed to be better, but I personally don’t like the vague initial bite, and they seem to glaze sooner than the PFC-08 I used to run on my F80. Downside of the PFC-08 were they were super noisy. Blue Stuff is quiet no matter what temp. Are the Endless pads noisy?
