I just registered as BMW Club Member last week, mainly to have access to the rebate but I saw all the events and am tempted to attend one.

It remains to be seen how much of a traditional MT it will have. Our insiders have indicated that it will have a transaxle AMT. AMTs are usually without the third pedal and do not have a stick with shift gates…

But here is an article about an H pattern transaxle manual by Xtrac, the same company that make the M4 GT3 race car transmission. My guess is that the hommage will have something similar from Xtrac.

https://www.hagerty.com/media/news/t...cosworth-v-12/

I think I might have found it, the hommage transmission.

I don’t know how this M4 CSL will turn out, but I do think BMW M is pretty good at marketing. I think people expecting a price around $110K will be disappointed. Probably closer to $150K. GT4 RS base price was quietly increased by $8K and is now basically $150K. Since M4 CSL goes into production in July, maybe first drive reviews will be soon enough.

I think it's a forgone conclusion that the front hood will be carbon. Likely the trunk also. The question is what other significant weight saving measures are they implementing?

Agreed. The hood is already Aluminum, is it not?

Not sure but if the M4 GTS and M5 CS has carbon hoods, so too will the CSL.

Hopefully they throw the kitchen sink at this thing with regards to weight reduction.

- full titanium exhaust
- magnesium wheels, titanium wheel bolts
- thinner front windscreen and side/rear glass
- carbon hood, trunk, roof, front/rear bumpers and interior panels
- removed rear seats and sound deadening

Any chance the engine will have lighter internals? Titanium connecting rods perhaps?

We can only hope. Thats a tall order. Mag wheels, and Ti bolts are a stretch. As are Ti connecting rods. Although they are light, they aren't really designed for longevity. Titanium is brittle, and it snaps, rather than bends. Definitely not designed for people who track swap their wheels out, as the lugs are continuously getting torqed from tire changes. I've seen 2-3 instances, in the past year of Ti lugs snapping on launch at the 1/4 mile track.

At least it looks pretty awesome with exposed CF vs paint or decals

Yep I'm thinking it will list 135-140k. Before wild markups.

Have anyone seen if the CSL reveal at Villa d’Este will be broadcasted live by BMW or any forum or other internet outlet?

It’s pretty much only one day left in Europe…

I could potentially see mag wheels being offered as an expensive option just like Porsche does with their RS products and Lambo does with the STO. Ferrari offers carbon wheels albeit at en eye watering premium. Ferrari and McLaren offer titanium wheel bolts so I assumed they could be on the table for the CSL. I wasn't aware of the sheering issue…. might have something to do with the quality of the product (or weight/inertia of the vehicle)?

It ultimately comes down to price point and I don't see BMW reaching for a level where they could bake in the price of these bits into the MSRP.

BMW did offer carbon wheels (partially carbon) on the 2016 GTS but it was very expensive and did not provide that much weight savings so I highly doubt it's going to come back.

As far as weight savings and querks here are my predictions
- carbon hood
- carbon/frp trunk
- carbon center console/tunnel (we know it)
- mandatory carbon brakes
- new style lighter weight wheels
- removal of some sound deadening
- removal of dual zone climate (we know it)
- push button start but no comfort access outside vehicle
- no sunroof option (obvious)
- rear seat delete (we know it but mandatory or option of regular carbon seats with backseats ?
- full race fixed buckets (mandatory or option) my guess is option $$
- lightweight rear glass (really doubtfully)
- lightweight exhaust
- bigger rolls bars combined with better tuned suspension (maybe stiffer springs)
- some bushings stiffer (doubtfull)
- more aggressive engine/trans tune (better adapted for track duty vs street wow)

Cheers

I agree with just about everything you suggested other than rear glass which you also points out as doubtful (which means, I guess, I agree with everything you said)

I don't think they would do CF panels but who knows

As long as it does the ring in under 7:10, I'm happy with whatever materials they use

You really think it will do within 10 sec of a 992 GT3? I don't see it but maybe...

I do hope it will do 7:10 but am confident it has already done 7:15 according to some insiders

I wondered when BMW refreshes the M4 will the CSL Laser Tail Light carry over to the mid cycle refresh, and also do you guys think sense BMW only making a 1000 of the CSL, BMW will carry over some of the aesthetics and features on the regular M4

Maybe on a future special edition, but not on the regular M4.
