Question What reactions are you getting to your G8x?

This question was buried in the middle of one of the long threads so I thought I'd make it into its own thread for people to chime in as they get their cars.

What kind of reactions are you receiving on your car from family, friends, other drivers, people on the street, parking lots, etc?

And maybe throw in what color you have for the heck of it. What kind of reaction does SPY get vs something like a more "normal" white?

I will say it gets a lot more attention than either of my F80s did. Ranging from thumbs up to people taking photos or video as I drive by or parked. A lot of compliments on Isle of Man Green/KO color combo for sure.

Same here a lot of thumbs up especially from other BMW owners. I've had a couple of people taking videos/pics.

I've found that a large portion of BMW owners around me these days are the equivalent of soccer moms who barely know that they are driving a BMW, let alone that I am in one next to them.

The X3 is BMW's best selling vehicle. You don't really think those sales are going to enthusiasts do you?

It's a neck snapper. No doubt about it. I'm used to this from other cars I own. However, never did I think a stock sounding G80 would get this much attention. People are infatuated. Kids, adults, women. I would say it definitely turned up a notch when I got 5% tint all around.

Let’s see about 6 car meets and three track days the main comment I hear is “ it looks so much better in person” to “it’s so aggressive looking”. So overall from car people if that’s a thing lol everyone seems to like it. Brooklyn grey btw

Nope, not at all. One of the docs I work with bought 2 X3's. She only wanted to spend around $18k so she got a 2018, it unfortunately got totalled a few months into having it, so then she bought a 2019 (could have been 2017 & 18). I think she is happy to have a BMW, but is FAR from being any type of enthusiast. I think some people just want the Roundel.

I've received an incredible amount of positive attention on this vehicle. Tons of people walking up to take pics, ask me about the car, fellow enthusiast making comments, etc. Far more attention than I would have anticipated, and that's coming from dragon orange '20 Audi Q8 and a 911. Most every person had positive things to say about the grill as well. Hasn't bothered anyone's delicate sensibilities yet.

Received several direct positive comments on the car along with a few thumbs up signals from passerby’s. The best though was from a 12 yr old boy straddling his classic stingray bike at an intersection in my neighborhood. As I drove slowly past him he looked directly at me and gave me the “nod”. I must admit I smiled for the next 5 minutes.

In a non creepy way, it'd be sweet if he can go for a ride. I remember back in '98 my first ride was a E36 M3 Techno Violet on white Vader seats. The initiation of my love affair with BMW.

The ride was from my neighbor who used to buy used high end BMWs and flip them.

Now it's the creepy neighbor offering a 12-year old boy a ride. In the 90s it was the coolest neighbor on the planet.

Lots of head turns, mainly two kinds: one group that knows what this is and excited to see it on the road and another group that has no clue, but still double taking to check it out. Fellow car people check it out from their cars almost always.

Lots of thumbs up (oddly most of them were in crotch rockets).

In person, entire tinting shop came out to check out.
Entire PPF shop came out to check it out lol. They all took pictures.
Went to sell my RS5, people piling up to check it out. GM came and asked to sit on the carbon seats (he drives an e63s).

Most common comment when people can talk to me directly - "wow, it looks gorgeous in person".

I have a Toronto Red M3 comp.

So far so good. Ugly grill? What ugly grill?

Just about every performance car-both real and imagined-drivers want to play.
So far it’s all been in really poor conditions-way to much traffic, 35-45 mph zones near lots areas known for LE. Only a couple open road situations have come up. So far all have been easily dispatched.

The ugly grille that people are referring to when they say "In person" its ok...I have a g82 and I love the front grille but I always do wonder if people mean it when they say they like it lmao

My SPY M3 reactions have been positive out in the real world. The only negative reactions are from the "BMW enthusiasts" online that seem to look for any opportunity to share an opinion no one asked for.

My wife said she drove by an accident involving a few cars and there was a guy crouched on the side of the road with his head in his arms. As she was passing by, he lifted his head up and give a thumbs up.

Another day as she was pulling into Trader Joe's where they have an employee by the front door counting the number of people going in and out, my wife noticed the woman that was covering that role was staring at her as she drove through the lot to park. While going in, she asked what kind of car it was and that she liked the color.

I went to a different store for a curbside pick up and the lady that delivered the item only said "I really like your car."

I had a few other comments like that in parking lots, pictures taken of the car while driving or parked, excited people making motions to get me to rev up the engine or launch it from a stop.

It's unusual for me to get so many (positive) comments about the car, unexpectedly many of them coming from women that don't seem to be into cars. Our only other experience with a car getting any attention is our Volvo XC90 back in 2016 when the new model wasn't common. We also had the Overseas Delivery sticker on until I took it off a month later because (older) couples kept knocking on the windows to talk about the OSD experience and purchasing process as if we were Volvo's representatives for the program. That's not quite comparable.

The only attention my Alpine White E92 M3 gets is when it has a tow strap installed on the way to or coming back from a track day. Those straps are great at attracting middle aged men.

Lol, when I finally finished building my M2, with DINAN badge and rally graphics I had a friend ask me if my car got any attention. Yes - from 12-50yo males 🤣

I know of one other M3 in the twin cities right now (IOMG) and the owner runs a well known body shop. He said he's constantly getting thumbs up, nods, and people saying "it looks so much better in person!"

Kind of ironic to me since part of the move to the m3 for me was to get a car that was a little more anonymous than what I was driving before. Oops.

Brilliant.

I got stranded one day and asked a guy for a ride home from soccer practice. Estoril Blue E36 M3 Evo back in 1996. I was ten years old and honestly that one journey in that car had me on a mission to own on M3. I was utterly hooked

But some of the grill haters said other people on the road would laugh in your face and even people crossing in a crosswalk might puke if they saw it stopped for them.

The problem with the F8x to me was always that it just looked like another BMW. A nice BMW but the average person wouldn't even give it a 2nd look. These cars have much more presence as they stand out and people can't help but notice them.

I don't get much attention as my car is black.

But until know I basically just drove to work and back home
But at work a lot of people wrote me and complimented after seeing it outside

And also when I'm cleaning sometimes people come over to take a look and say "in person it's really a good looking car".
