I'm getting ready to pull the cord, and there's nothing local for me to test drive. I'm curious what others did.

I test drove a G82 6MT vigorously. I was not a buyer until the test drive. Pure “bored car guy” window shopper satisfying his curiosity. I wasn’t convinced until the latter half of the drive when I tested the steering and handling. The power was solid, but didn’t impress me (one of the first things I did was step on it in a straight line to close a gap, and I was actually surprised by the lesser low end torque vs. S55 cars). The way the car goes around curves at speed is the big story for me. Massive front end grip, composed rear end, sharp and agile steering. Sold.

I went to test drive to set my goals of havign one next year along with the AWD...

I loved the RWD that much I did another 2 test drives (one in the wet) and bought one as couldnt stand waiting until the next year.

I really really enjoyed the feeling of the RWD.

I come form a m140 i - again RWD but has nothing on the M3 - it truly is an apiec car (especially the way it handles and makes you feel)

Would I have bougt it with out test drivign it, no.

Do I recommend it if you can not test drive - holy crap yes :-)

But remember every one is different and everything is always subjective :-)

nope this is the first car I bought without test driving it, in fact placed deposit the week of unveil last fall. But I did mange to see the press cars doing tours at the dealer before firming up my spec

my mental justification was: this is likely the last ever pure ICE car in the segment, there's very little chance bmw will fck it up

I haven't bought it yet, but I can't imagine myself purchasing something in this price range without first test driving it. I know many do, but I have to test drive it first. I also make sure to test all competitors.

I drove out of state to test drive because this is going to be my daily and I needed to know if I could live with it. Went in worried that I wouldn't like it and left dead set on buying it. Just have to wait for the xdrive allocations to come out

How many German 4 door sedans that emit pure sex come in 6MT? Only one.

One of the questions that the guy that I sold my yas F82 to asked me was, will this car get me women? Yes, absolutely, you should totally buy this car from me.

I was able to see a drive event car in November, and got lucky when a couple showed up locally in March. They were using an MT M3 as the test driver and it was excellent. I was able to get a broker allocation a week later (with a discount) on an M3Comp= my preference. I did order an M2 with no test drive in 2016 as none were available but no worries.

I wanted MT, and my wife wanted 4 doors and 5 seats, so it was pretty obvious which car we would get... It bugs me the dealership wouldn't allow a test drive, but it wouldn't have changed anything.

You probably want to see one and sit in it though to decide on the specs.

I've been a serial test-driver for years, all the way up until COVID made it harder. Even then, I managed to get a full-day test drive from Tesla on a Model Y Performance last fall (mostly to satisfy my SO's interest in it...which waned significantly after we spent a day with it).

Yet I haven't test-driven EITHER of my M's before buying them. The M2C didn't exist to test drive when mine was delivered (and by then it was basically too late, I was locked in), and with the M3, it was an HEA car, they weren't allowing test drives, and I basically had a very short time to decide if I wanted to proceed. Their only other HEA car already belonged to another buyer.

It's such a leap of faith, and it doesn't make me terribly comfortable. That being said, with most performance cars I don't feel that a quick test drive really gives you enough information to understand the car.

I have yet to buy mine (order placed) and also haven't test driven one as all that have arrived at the local dealership have been sold cars or sold relatively quickly. I honestly don't intend on test driving one either while I wait for mine to be built. I've test driven an E92 and F80 in the past and didn't find them to be at a point where I wouldn't own them so based on all the reviews of the G80 so far, I don't think I'll have any issues.

Besides, could the ride quality be any worse than the E9x generation…anyone remember the various pothole explosion threads from back in the day on here and Bimmerfest? Hit a minor pothole in those cars and you'd think a bomb went off!

I wasn't able to test drive a G80, but I did test drive an F80 last year which was amazing, so I figured it could only be better. I also got to drive an X4M Competition the day I placed my order. That car pulled like crazy and drove like a dream. It's a little bigger but with the same engine so I felt like it was the next best thing to test driving a G80. My M3 6MT is arriving to the States on Sunday and I can't wait.
