I actually didn't care for the E46's fender grilles. They looked really cheap on an otherwise good looking car. I think the fender grilles have gotten progressively better up until the G8X (...with the F8X's fender grille being my favorite). As soon as a better fender grille comes out, I'll be changing mine out.

Since when has BMWs 0-60 been accurate? They always under promise and over deliver. I'd be surprised if the car didn't break 2.9 in the right conditions.

They were a pretty novel thing back then. So maybe nostalgia is affecting my memory

FYI all - I was just browsing BMW Germany press release around the AWD xDrive M3/M4: https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/deuts...-und-im-bmw-m4

If you look at the last paragraph it says

Quote:
Die neuen Modelle BMW M3 Competition Limousine mit M xDrive und BMW M4 Competition Coupé mit M xDrive können ab Mitte Mai beim Händler bestellt werden.
Google translates this to:

Quote:
The new models BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive and BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive can be ordered from dealers from mid-May.
So not long to go before we can order then!

How long does it typically take to get the car once you order it (US-West Coast)?

It's not really the ordering per se, it's whether you have an allocation and then what the build week of that allocation is. There are people here who "ordered" without an allocation in early March, and still don't have an allocation. They are probably looking at close to 6 months start to finish with how it's trending. Someone who orders with an allocation that's just about to go into production could have the car in 8 weeks, maybe less. I think the generally quoted time is 8 - 12 weeks, but allocation (and then build week) dictate it all.

I've already placed the deposit in January for the very early M3 Comp. Xdrive here in Italy. Just asked my dealer, but we cannot going on with the order for the time being.

as far as the 0-62 time, it's more realistic that it could make a 3.4, 3.3 in certain conditions, but less it's not possibile in my opinion with the power and weight it has, even with the great S58 under the bonnet.

The RWD has been measured at 3.6-3.7 and is clearly traction limited. I would be shocked if the AWD didn't outrun an RS5, which C&D measured at 3.3. It will probably be a 3.0-3.1 with a 1 foot roll out.

Now that the first configurators are online I realized from the German one that the expected premium for xDrive of 4000 Euro actually includes the 19/20 inch wheel setup. As most of us would have clicked that option anyway, makes the difference between RWD and AWD just about 2k.

Unless I'm completely wrong, you don't pay extra for the 19/20 setup in the US. Europe's pricing and packages are completely different from US/NA.

That's correct. The bi-color 826M are standard on the Competition model, and you can change to any of the other available wheel styles at no charge.

0-62 vs 0-60 is ~0.2 and a one-foot roll out is worth another 0.2~0.3, so he's essentially saying it could clock below 3.0 sec 0-60mph with a one-foot roll-out .

Do you have a source that it takes a quarter of a second to do the extra 2MPH to 62? Because I've never heard that anywhere and honestly, it sounds pretty unbelievable. I imagine the difference would be in the hundredths, not tenths.

See data below from R&T for the M4cs, which's acceleration is close to the G8X. Average acceleration between 50 and 70mph is 0.085mph/s, so the car needs 0.17~0.19s to accelerate from 60mph to 100km/h (62.15mph).

If you can find more detailed acceleration charts for the G8X, we can do the math, but it will be in the same ball park. This is consistent with BMW acceleration quotes, where 0-60mph is usually quoted as ~0.2s faster than the 0-100km/h they post. Slower accelerating cars will be closer to the 0.3s mark.

Some estimated figures on https://www.auto-data.net/en/bmw-m3-...eptronic-43388 also suggest 0.2sec difference between 0-60 and 0-62
