I guess if the car is in a gear and the safety that tells the car is not in neutral fails the car could start in a gear and hurt someone, in the Auto I think it's just impossible for this situation to happen.

I think you're confusing the key card, which works the exact same as a regular key except it needs to be near an NFC sensor vs the remote start feature available using your phone or the actual key?

This thread is about the NFC key card. Nothing to do with remote start. The key card looks like a credit card. No way to remote start using it.

Your right, I was clearly thinking about remote start since some ppl talked about it. As for the Key Card no one knows for sure why this decision was made by BMW but it seems like they designed the car around the ZF8 first and then ran into some problems when installing the Manual and just decided to not bother to rework the whole design to fit both.. ?

My wife just leased a 330 Hybrid and she got a key card. I was disappointed when I found out my M3 doesn't have one.... Fully understand the remote start situation but a least let me unlock and lock etc... Stupid overbite IMO

Now that I've been given the car and key I can't see ever using it. I'm not going to go through the hassle of taking the card out of my wallet and putting in the charging tray every time to use it.

Mine doesn't either. My delivery guy at the PC told me I didn't have it because of I never really understood what reason. Is that true?

Is that how it works? Its not to unlock or lock the car? Is purely to start the car if you used your phone to unlock it etc? I thought it was the same as a key, meaning keep the card in your wallet and never touch a key again...

So in actually its: carry key, or phone to unlock/gain access to the vehicle. Then get into car and pull out the card from your wallet and put it in the center of the console for the ability to start the car? Thats arguably the dumbest thing ive heard. Still have key with me, and now made the center of the console useless.

As I understand it and I think was shown to me at my PCD you hold it up to the door handle and the car unlocks (maybe it can lock it too?) and then you can start the car with it, but you have to put it in the phone charging tray. It would be great if it worked just like your keys where you could just keep it in your wallet all the time, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I took the card and dragged I around the entire car lol. Window, windshield, door handle, hood area (like Tesla dealer code), and on the roof.... I then deactivated and reactivated it like 4 times in the dash and got conformation over and over.... so far its completely useless.

Hmm. I guess I don't know what it takes to set it up as the PC guy had it all set up for me before I walked into the room with the car. You should take it to your dealer and have them make it work.

Just to make sure, I just took mine out to the car, touched it to the door handle and it unlocked.

The idea is that you put it in your wallet. If you are out and lose your key or do something stupid like drop it into the toilet, you can get home. It works via NFC, not IR or Bluetooth so the range is only 10cm.

I suppose that makes sense. It's still going to sit at home in the cabinet though given my minimalist wallet.

The foot unlock cannot work with the M3/M4 exhaust system. There is no good place for them to mount the sensor.

I thought I didn't have one either until I pulled down the driver side visor and there it was in the clip next to the mirror.

Not a huge deal to me.

Just happy that the rear doors on the M3 have comfort access (unlock when you put your hands on the handle).

The f80's only had that on the front doors, not the back. That would have really pissed me off.
