Did you have the auto high beams function on? And were you on a limited-access road?

In my experience it's pretty rare that they come on. In my opinion it's mostly a cosmetic feature so you get a little blue plastic in your headlights and show everyone that you have a top-spec car.

Yes and yes. I've also tried all the other combination of manual high beams and auto from a stop or while rolling on limited-access roads, two lane roads, highways, and highways with elevated concrete dividers with no traffic around.

I spent almost two hours (mostly getting miles on the car) testing it out and at no point did the laser high beams turn on based on no changes in light brightness or "throwing" distance covered by the high beams.

I got made fun of in another post asking about coding for the G8x cars so I've almost given up asking. But do you see a bit of commonality from the G2x that might carry over?

Coding is one of my favorite aspects of BMW ownership and I've dug pretty deep into each series of car I've owned up until this point but it has all been based on guidance from others...
“Shutters” are not required for anti-dazzle high beams on LED matrix type headlight as were installed on the F8X.

Interesting, I wonder why my buddy's 2017 F82 has perfectly defined light tunnels, but my neighbor's 2018 F82 does not?

I ran into the same issue as another person on this forum where I thought I'd be smart on my 2018 F87 and put anti dazzle back on, only to learn the matrix LED lights on my car didn't have the required beam forming (shutters, whatever) so it would sorta move them around and adjust intensity but still blinded the piss out of other drivers. Both my neighbor and I stopped using auto high beams all together.

The 2018+ US spec LCI icon headlight have some missing LED arrays and circuitry as well as having a different configuration of the reflector lenses to effectively enable anti-dazzle high beams. There's a whole thread on this on the F8X forum. The hardware is indeed different, but it is not about "shutters".

Shutters were required in xenon projector headlights.

I had both a 17 and 18 and had the same experience. They apparently changed the lighting module for 18 so you could no longer get the well defined light tunnels. I'm looking forward to being able to code them on this car as they were amazing.

So you are saying (and people that have coded it seem to say) that the well defined light tunnels are codable on the US spec cars? Tried Bimmercode, but couldn't get access to the modules with the OBD adapter I was using.

That seems the consensus so far. Just to be clear, I am commenting on the 2018+ F8X US spec cars here, not the G8X.

Right. I think we are saying the same thing

2017 F8x - yes
2018+ F8x - no
G8x - yes

That's what I was hoping to confirm, thanks!

Basically on US spec cars if option 5AP "decoding for no-dazzle high beam assistance" is listed on the build sheet it means we can fix that with Bimmercode and not laze oncoming traffic 👍

I was able to talk to some techs from a local dealership and they confirmed that the laser headlights will pretty much never turn if there are any other lights or reflections on the road.

And I might have misunderstood but when they turn on, they're limited to 30% of their full brightness.

So total rip off if you're paying extra for them since it seems BMW had to restrict them heavily.

I sure hope that 30% limitation can be coded out.

Coding out useless US government limitations would be wonderful.

Not sure if it's an issue with my dealer or BMWUSA, but when the dealer selected the Executive Package for my 2022 M3 preorder, the package costs $1800 (instead of $3000 for 2021) and does not include Laserlights or WIFI hotspot.

I could care less about the WIFI hotspot, but I want them friggin' Laserlights!

Have you not downloaded the 2022 order guide yet? You should. Laser lights are now a standalone option, not part of the executive package.

Let me understand this, the standard headlight light output is led or halogen? I just care that I can get the hid/ led light output at night.

Yes, it's worth it, since you can code in Anti Dazzle. The Anti Dazzle with the laser lights is one of my favorite features on the entire car.

LED. They haven't been halogen for probably 20 years. Before LED they were xenon

It's fully code-able, and an impressive feature built into the G8X.
