I wonder if we can change our gear ratio? Haven’t seen anyone do it yet.

718 manual folks have done it, but it's $$$$. They have the opposite problem--gears are way too tall, and it's pretty easy to go to jail in 2nd gear. Takes a lot of fun away from the MT if you never need to shift.

I feel like our gears are too tall mostly too. I live in New York and top of 2nd is already illegal. Top of 3rd is wildly illegal. I’d love to row through a bunch.

1) Are you loving it
-By and large yes. Just passed 13K miles on my 2021 M3. 2) Is the shifter feel mechanical enough for you -To be honest, no. My other cars have been Porsche recently (and lots of M cars from past 3 gens) and my last two have been 718 GT4s in manual (yellow and now shark blue) but it just does not come close. The shifter, the clutch feel, clutch engagement are all really lacking in comparison. 3) What has your clutch engagement been in sport vs efficiency modes -No difference to me here. 4) Time it takes for Transmission to warm up -15/20 mins? 5) Points you like to share -The car IMO drives best when you're driving it a bit more aggressively. All that being said, I cannot help but think the ZF is probably the transmission best matched to the car, and you definitely feel the extra torque in the comp model. Also that being said, I am close to trading my G80 M3 in for a new Verde Montreal Giulia Quad. Always thought this was a better driver's car than anything German in it's class with a level of charm a character that only cars like a GT Porsche or higher provide. As someone who owns both, the BMW gears are too short, especially first. The GT4 might be ok with slightly shorter gears, but IMO unless you've owned one and driven it every day (I put 10K miles on my first one) you dont have experience to say. It's totally a non-issue.

Throttle response on G80 is uber sensitive I compare it to Accord Coupe V6 it's SOHC 3.5L NA engine revs effortlessly.....point being it's easier to teach my nephew to drive stick shift on the CTR vs the Accord...the rolling from a dead stop part. |

I'll add that the manual is also in some way theft proof. And in my family, wife proof. She can't drive manuals. . Win/Win

I am on my second day and as expected -- very familiar feel, shifts, smoothness, rubberness... I love the BMW 6MT and have been using it since 2002.

It's under 5,000 rpm (or 106 mph) and avoid full throttle or kickdown "under all circumstances" for the first 600 miles.
Then under 6,000 rpm (or 130 mph), and avoid full throttle in gears 1 to 3 for the second 600 miles. Don't use launch control until after break-in. |

Bringing this thread back to the top…now that you all have had more seat time in your manuals, what’s your consensus? Still loving it, or, wish you’d have gone for the Comp. XD? Just curious…as I am patiently waiting for mine to arrive at the dealership in the next week or 10 days.

I'm still loving it as well. Added a clutch stop and that definitely helped eliminate the needless clutch travel. Now thinking about doing a CDV delete to make things extra crispy.
I did recently drive a comp, and while it's definitely significantly faster, there are moments of lag. I think I'd be happy either way, but definitely don't regret getting the 6spd.
