Great video to show the difference in a real world environment. Those who think the HP and TQ difference between the two is marginal, watch this video.

TLDR: In a nutshell, can't go wrong with either car.
One is substantially superior performance wise, the other one is more fun

I bet next video they've got the M3 tuned. Lol
I think the 8sp auto makes a huge difference in performance too. 6sp manual is so dated. |

AT's have been faster for nearly 2 decades but you're really missing the point if you cite the performance difference (hint: no one drives them for performance). I would take my non-comp 6MT F80 over my F80 CS any day of the week. It's just more fun.

Heel toe while trail braking and clipping the apex is a dying art. Every time you blip the throttle and it slides into the lower gear effortlessly it will put 100x more smiles on any face than flicking some silly paddels . A manufacturer is still offering this option, it blows my mind why people choose to drive an appliance. Last edited by Nkr15; 05-26-2021 at 12:47 AM.. |

Long live the 3rd pedal. A true drivers car. Yes the flappy paddles are faster, turn a better lap/shift time and allow for less boost loss BUT a 6spd is just more fun. I feel it connects me with the car more and I have to focus on more of what counts then just tapping the shifter/paddle and being in gear.
This is a salon car NOT a hyper car or race car. Can it be? Sure. If that's your desire then go flappy paddle but if you want a 4dr performance car that oozes smiles and spine shivers then get it in 6mt and shut up Just my 2cents tho.

I have the 6MT and I LOVE it !
But I have to admit the Auto has also a fun factor. Yesterday I drove the M2 Comp (with the DCT) I found it pretty awesome to be honest. I understand now what people miss now that the DCT is gone... Anyway, i'm happy I chose the 6MT because for ME this is more fun. But like everything it is subjective. There are people who like more the AT and nothing bad with that. It's a matter of taste, and awesome that BMW offers us both! |

It's interesting being on the 6MT side of this argument again after being in the DCT crowd with my M2C. Scorp!on is correct...this is a personal choice, and some of the responses are attacks rather than preferences. I doubt anyone is going to be convinced they made the wrong choice...because they didn't. None of the "DCT is a mistake!" posts on the M2 forums convinced me to go back to a manual with my G80...the decision was entirely internal.

Watched it last night... I'm a manual guy at heart but the performance of the Comp is incredible. It's pretty crazy, but awesome, that BMW is giving people the choice in today's world!
It was cool to see that there is actual launch control in the manual! I thought they were being facetious but it's a legit LC mode he activated.

Those of us that deal with the comparative hassle of driving manual do so because it's more fun. We don't judge people that don't wish to drive manual, but we can't f**king stand people pointing out the relative performance differences as if we don't already know. "You DO realize the manual is slower, right? Why would you get one?"

I would agree with you. Want to drive a manual? Great, me too. Don't want to? Great, you don't have to and never will be forced to do so.

I have a CS, my first AT in 22 years of having a license. I hate the thing and I'm bored out of my mind. Big mistake getting it.

The 30 years you drove manual you "cared" about the relative performance difference between MT and AT? That wasn't the case for a good chunk of that time.

Based viewpoint but BMW should have offered the comp package & and with the 6MT. I bet the take rate would've been higher than the base 6MT. There really is no reason why we have a "base" model. As I can see with the M5s/M8s/X3Ms, I want to say the vast majority of the sales are for the comp models.
