Great video.

PS. Sponsored in part by a consortium of tire manufacturers?

It would be nice that when you score well on drift meter you get a set of rear tires for free 😂

Fun video!

M Mode Professional is of no practical value to me but, aside from the fun factor associated with this video, I could really relate to one of the professional driver's when he referenced . . . the S58 is like a naturally aspirated engine with lots of torque. Spot on!!!!

Liars! Zero steering feel, and there is definitely turbo lag. Sick drifting though.

I haven't driven the G80, but after a few times behind the wheel of the G20 330/340 I've concluded that aside from Porsche, the newest 3-series has one of the better EPS in the industry. I think you simply get used to it. It's still very precise, quick enough; and the weighting, while a bit artificial, is still nice.

I'd argue the modern four door vehicle with steering closest to your E92 is actually the Porsche Macan. Makes sense why a some F80 M3 bros online trade 'em in for Macans.

Now let's just says. Macan steering and handling is incredible and way better than an M2. Traded the M2 for the Macan, best decision, not even Ohlins could fix the crappy M2 handling. You cannot compare quality.

As far as comparing it to the M3 comp the steering is much more responsive and you have way more feel to it. You can place it anywhere and know what the Macan is doing. M3 was slightly numb.

So I agree.

Accurate yes, quick yes, feeling none, still way behind Porsche. It's good steering for an electric rack. It's funny though, I was driving my winter beater (Nissan Xterra) this morning and I actually think it has a little more steering feel than my E92 M3. Sloppy as shit, but you can definitely tell what the tires are doing.

Macan's are great, but the S just didn't do it for me. Not nearly enough power. Turbo is the only way to go. I almost pulled the trigger on one until my wife saw it and laughed. She said "that's a cute little car, is that for me?"

Macan's steering is so naturally weighted. No on center deadness either, you know exactly where the wheels are at all times. Steering is tight even when trying to pull out of the driveway. Amazing car. My only gripe is that it's not a sedan.

My old 2nd gen Lexus IS had an early iteration of EPS, and it was brimming with road feel and was extremely heavy. I actually prefer it over the steering in the Alfa Giulia, which is hyper-quick and precise but is totally numb and fingertip light at lower speeds. Funny how these older more rudimentary cars are in some ways superior to modern ones.

I agree the Macan S is not enough power if somebody is looking for an alternative to the M3. But otherwise it is the one to get in the Macan family. Best balance between power, fun, and price.

I suggest to anyone going for a test drive of these cars, to do a few donuts in front of the dealership. If they get cross, just point them to this promotion material.

"the drift is sick. #M#BMWGang#Mgang#Luxury#Fire#Sick#lifestyle" is the kind of response that BMW expects to see with this kind of marketing material

They are marketing to a behavior that has been going on for decades. Can't blame them.

That's true. Hate to see BMW diluting the M image this way - but they gotta meet that bottom line right?

I don't think they can dilute an image that has been present in the ///M community ever since I came to BMW in 2001. They are merely acknowledging it.
