So I got this warning multiple times yesterday. Tires are the one thing I stay on top of all the time as I check them several times a month. The door placard shows tires should be at 32psi, the iDrive showed the tires were no lower than 30psi.

I went ahead and brought the tires back up to 32psi, even still the warning persisted. I headed on into work. Left work to head home and run an errand. No warning, then ran my errand and came back out to the car and the warning is back up on the iDrive again.

Is anyone else seeing this behavior with the tire pressure warnings on the iDrive?

I had this on my manual ‘24

There are settings in idrive where you can go in and select the type of tires your car is mounted up with. My car came from the factory with race tires selected in idrive. The pressure settings for race tires has a recommended pressure of 36 or 37 for the rear.

The manual lists all the different pressure recs for different sizes tires. Most are around 33/32 but the race or track tire size has higher pressure for the rear.

When it got colder with the seasons changing I got the tire pressure warning but when I inflated to 33/32 it didn’t go off. Then I figured the above out. Go into idrive and find the tire settings and make sure it’s set to the right tires

Recommended rear psi is 38 on my car. Did you fill them all to 32?

Whats your setting in the IDrive for TPMS? There is a summer tire, winter tire, etc and speeds. If you have it in Summer and over some crazy speed number (I am not with my car so I cant check it) the TPMS range will be higher so even if you are at 32 which is great btw; the higher TPMS expectation will possibly make your 30 psi out of tolerance.

I run Summer and under 155 or whatever the speed is listed so the pressure range is 32 and therefore if my car hits 30 on a cold day at start it wont trigger.

Keep in mind that the tire pressure indicated on the door placard is cold tire pressure. It can go up several psi as the tires warm up from driving. So if your warm tire pressure is 30 psi, it is significantly under-inflated.

Mine doesn't usually go off until it's ~25 psi or so, I think I have the setting on summer/"other' tires in ID7. Try fiddling with the type of tire setting you have.

It was checked stone cold as I always check all of my vehicles.


I will look into the iDrive when I get home later, to be honest I forgot to check that screen. I use it all the time on my 20 X3M but the menu system is vastly different from iD6 to iD8.5.

You need to select the correct tire size for the rear and then reset the TPM. You’ll see a check control message that states initialized tire pressure monitor.

The BMW app will often show recommended tire pressure values that are different from what's written on the door placard. I'm assuming that these recommendations are based on actual (as opposed to cold) tire temperature.

Sometimes the sensors have a glitch. You can do the trick by inflating tires to 38 / 40 psi then save the setting in iDrive. Drive for a day or 2. Confirm no warning then reduce the tire pressure down to 35psi and then save the setting again in iDrive. Drive a day or 2 and reduce again till your preferable pressure sand save it.

My current setting is 32psi for over a year and no warning at all.

Not sure how you guys run 32 PSI on these cars and find it OK. It’s a heavy car. I ran either 36 or 38 both front and rear on the S4 for street and the M is no different, I’m sticking to same pressures, depending on feel. The Michelins that I know you guys love to run already have a soft ass sidewall, they must feel like marshmallows at 32. Lol

Thanks! It says 33.1 is the recommended pressure. I’m not going to bother I always run 35 psi all around. It drives and responds better this way. .

You may have higher pressure on stock car but if it's lower than surely you dont want the same setting as it is a very crashy and bumpy drive for sure. I have tried on 38 / 40 and couldn't stand it. From 32 to 34 is much better. And the same setting recommendation on door card and in the app. And also depending on how many people in it.

It's tire specific as well. I have Pirelli P Zeros and my recommended pressure is 32 front 35 rear.
