Im killing myself. I wasted a whole week trying to figure out who could even install these. Did I need to go to the dealer to get them installed, because there was a software update? No, that's not the case. I can technically get them installed, anywhere.

It would be physically easier, and more trusting for me to drive my car down to LA to get these installed, but, I thought I would be able to sneak out the back door, and do a turn and burn, but that proved harder than I anticipated.

The truth is, I'm going to probably end up getting them installed, locally, because the logistics of driving a 900 mile round trip, is going to be too much of a pain in the ass for me, including a mini vacation etc, and possibly having to bring 2 cars.

I'm already going to Hawaii, in 3 weeks, for 7 days, I should just be able to take my car where I want, without a hassle, but, it just ended up in a little argument.

Posting something without complete information do confuse people.

So, to clarify, based on my experience installing it on F90 M5.

- It is made by KW based on BMW M Performance spec.
- No coding required on the EDC. Coding is to re-calibrate the headlight aim, which can be done manually.
- Drop wise, not as much as KW HAS or MSS on F90 M5.

But, I am intrigued to collect some data out of it.
So, Limegrntaln , let me know if you want to drive down for the weekend and get it going.
I have many customers driving down as far as 20 hours away.
Would you say it's necessary to recalibrate the headlight aim after installing a has kit ?

I believe the dealership has their standard procedures to connecting to the vehicle when you bring it in. If it was an ongoing issue, the hundreds of KW installs would all be problem, especially for the people that just install in their driveway.

Im surprised a press is needed for this. Spring/strut compressor yes, but a Hydraulic press? Ive done a few sets of adjustable height spring installations, never needed a press.

There are always different ways to do things. I've seen people hold it with one hand and hit it with a hammer, with the other hand. Same people that use a combination wrench to hammer on the back of a screwdriver.

You can do it by ISTA to calibrate headlight aim electronically or manually through the adjustment on the headlight.

Is it necessary? Yes and no, depending on where you live.
For my local customers, they live in the city, so everywhere is pretty well lit.
I adjusted my G05 X5 because I took it for road trip and when in the middle of nowhere, you can't see as far. But, before I did adjustment, I just use my other build-in feature in the car. The High Beam.

On KW HAS and M Performance HAS (which is made by KW), you will need to press out the stock spring perch and replace with KW spring perch by pressing it in.

Yes, some guys uses mallet, which is fine to knock it off. But to install the KW spring perch, if you didn't hit it evenly, you can damage the aluminum shock body and may not be pressed properly.

Seen that happened to one local customer F90 M5 with Dinan HAS that he purchased used. Not sure how it was installed, but the aluminum shock body all messed up which causes noise and uneven height on all 4 corners.

So while people may think our lights auto adjust, there is still a focal point from where it starts and by lowering your car; your lower the starting point. I adjusted both mine up to match the stock measures (I have a place in my garage where I line up the car and then mark the wall with the OEM).

To actually adjust the lights- its super easy and all you need is a phillips and turn the adjuster counterclockwise and watch the beam move up to where the oem mark is. I never adjust the horizontal settings.

I would be fine getting this one and using it when needed till it breaks. Can get a decent one down the line. What about the other couple specialty tools they say are needed?

0 492 417, plate from tool kit, part number 0 492 415
0 493 644, sleeve from tool kit, part number 0 491 939
0 495 343, half-shell from tool kit, part number 0 495 339
5 A36 B04, spring plate, top
5 A36 B05, spring plate, bottom
0 494 933, spring tensioner
2 405 829, installation tool
5 A4A 186, adapter (for cars with all-wheel drive only)

Doesnt look like the kit comes with most of these.

These appear to be standard BMW installation tools, with the exception of the adapter, 5 A4A 186, which would be needed if you're going to get the kit installed by the dealer.

The dealer is going to want to install the kit by the book, versus how a set of KWs are installed, simply by measuring the shock body for the spring perch. The M Performance suspension comes with a spring perch tool, and together with the 186 tool, that you would order, it would alleviate having to take shock measurements, as the spring perch tool provided would act like a template, to get the measurement exact everytime.

So, if you're going to get the springs installed at the dealer, I would order the 186 tool with the springs. I didn't do this and now it would take a week or better to get the correct tool to work with the spring perch template tool.

From OEM installation instructions:

Quote:
The retrofit system does not require programming/coding.
  • Connect the battery
  • Conduct a function test
  • Re-assemble the car
  • Carry out steering angle adjustment
  • Carry out a standard chassis measurement with DIN loading as described in ISTA/AIR No. 32 00 150
  • Carry out a chassis measurement and adjust using the standard chassis adjustment data

Print out the attached workshop certificate, complete it and give it to the customer with the TÜV parts report.

Workshop certificate
M Performance chassis
This confirms that the M Performance suspension has been fully installed on the car shown below as specified in
installation instructions No. 01 29 5 A3B 6A7 and the TÜV parts report.

FYI, I asked my CA about adding this to my build.

They reached out to BMW NA and it's currently an EU-only option.

Yes, I talked to my local parts counter, and its "blocked" from ordering, according to the dealership. I ordered mine from Germany.

@Limegrntaln have you seen the m performance coil over kit? I just saw that one I wonder if that's worth the additional $1k (I'm assuming)?

They have the V3 and the V4 kit out, as far as I know. I was waiting on the actual DDC kit. The V3 and V4 you have to disable the factory suspension electronic dampers. The KW DDC, has a plug to plug the KW shocks into the OEM wiring on the car, so you can change the KW shock settings with your drive modes. The DDC aren't out, yet, as far as I know. I'll post a pic of them, below. And the OEM dampening is so good, it begs the question, is it really needed?

This is the kit that this thread is about. The ones I bought from Germany. They're not available for sale in the US, yet.

Yeah, right now, the only full coilover kit still needs to have the EDC cancellers, to remove the stock computer signal. That's why I just got the HAS kit for now. I don't want to block anything off. I'd rather just want for the plug in coilovers. The V3 and V4 should be available, here. I know EAS has a thread, where they installed a set. I think IND has them in stock.

Check this thread. https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1916684

Thanks, although if I went that route I want the M performance coil overs so was wondering if theres a hidden part number in Germany somewhere. I dont really want KW or another aftermarket brand. Hoping for pricing similar to this: https://www.shopbmwusa.com/PRODUCT/5...ANCE-COILOVERS
