Wow, tons of Chicago area on this thread, love it. Also in for a meet up. Now I feel like I need snow tires though!

Anyone have any recommendations for exhaust people in Chicago area? Looking at the PSI or Supersprint after break in.

For you Chicago folks, would you allow a lowly 2022 440i GC in your meetup when it happens? I hope to take ownership of mine in the next week or two.

If anyone in Chicago takes delivery of 2022 model G8x model, can I take a look at the exhaust? I am ordering a custom-made titanium exhaust ( middle pipe + muffler). But the manufacture in China does not have information on the different kinds of sensors on the US Spec. The exhaust is already done and they could ship it to me once I confirm the sensor's details. So, I really want them to begin shipping the exhaust to me, even I have no idea when the car will arrive.

I think you should join as long as you are not driving an AMG.

Well another week and my stop sale is still open. I called Genius this evening and it is about 10 minutes of my time I can't get back. My car has been there since the 26th of October and others from other ports have their cars. I was mostly patient but it is starting to wear thin now.

The "geniuses" (side note - what a stupid name) know nothing. I called and they were absolutely useless.

I hope things turn a corner soon, mine will be arriving at that port next week.

🙁🙁. Genius is useless. Some agents are better than others but some are totally useless.
I really thought there would be more closures this week in Baltimore. It just f__king sucks that it was not.
But on a positive note, I can tell you guys that the wait is definitely worth it.

I don't envy the Genius agents their jobs. Agreed that they're only as useful re. production and stop sale status as the data/applications to which they have access. And in my experience some are more engaged and empathetic than others.

But as someone who is occasionally called upon to talk his elderly mother through settings and functions on her X3 with iDrive 6.5, I sympathize. Agents must have the grace and patience of saints to deal with many (most?) stereotypical BMW owners.

Now ... my main aggravation is the opacity of BMW and the information they surely have but don't/can't share about our cars' production status. If cars are stuck at port for a stop sale, it would calm a lot of nerves to know, for example, that a given port had 900 vehicles with that stop sale, and that 500 units of the constrained part were expected to arrive 12 days hence. The additional insight doesn't fix any cars any sooner, but it removes a huge amount of FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) from the situation.

Instead, it's up to us fanboys and fangirls on these forums to share our individual experiences, then extrapolate from them what to expect for our own experience. Not the most scientific, but the use of tribal knowledge "goes way back"!

We. Are. Tribal! The cool M3 tribe

But yes totally agree with this. It makes me question whether they even have good visibility on the arrival of these parts themselves…

The thing that gets me is there is no pattern to how stop sales are closed, some cars that got to the port recently are getting the stop sales resolved before others that have been waiting weeks (the ram stop sale).

I'd hope BMW has a pretty decent supply chain. My guess is they know EXACTLY which car's will have stop sales at the VPC. What they may not know is if they can get the parts to the VPC in time to prevent a stop sale. The 10 or 14 days the car spends crossing the ocean can be enough time to source parts to prevent some stop sales from taking place. My guess is they have some smart people who have spent a good deal of time on how to make the situation as least disruptive to the customer as possible. They're probably spending a fortune overnighting stop sale parts.

Another week is gone…

After this long wait - excitement is gradually turning into disappointment as there is no clear info on what and when it will happen.

I understand the supply chain challenges, but can't get over on why the information/status can't be tracked and shared with customers.

Thanks,
TJ

Perhaps why they are keeping some cars in QC purgatory at the plants. Saves on shipping parts all over and *might* reduce wait times.

I think cars are getting produced no matter what, if the part is there when production is going for the lucky few then it's luck as I know of vehicles making it through production all the way to the dealership without issue. However I can see them shipping parts by waiting to get a large batch made, loading it on a boat instead of plane.
