Anyone do a custom order recently? I am looking for tips on which dealership to order with, how to negotiate, what to expect. I am in Mass and would consider dealers in Mass, RI, NH. Thank you

Edit: I am currently working with BMW of Boston (Herb Chambers) and I like them. I am 5th in line for a custom allocation. Will keep all posted.

Build photos shown below.
. 2024 BMW M4 comp xdrive AWD in BSM with blue interior.
. WITHOUT have carbon buckets and WITHOUT carbon exterior trims.
. I plan to fit some carbon trims in high-end aftermarket. Thanks

It depends. If you have a relationship with a dealer, you might be able to put less of a deposit down. I ordered from Tulley.

They are pretty much garbage other than the fact that they are a high volume dealer and get faster allocations. I would likely use Sudbury.

To get on the awaiting allocation list you will need a deposit. Normally $5000. After that...its a crap shoot. Dealers do it different. Most run the numbers at time of deposit to give you a ballpark and will run your credit when your allocation comes in. Some make you sign that you will buy, some, if they have on the lot, will try to push that on you. If you get a special color...they might ask for more of a deposit and/or make the deposit non-refundable. (or try to as I think that is illegal).

I picked up in Sept 2022. Things might have loosened up some. Do your due diligence, do not settle for things you will regret later.

Good Luck!

I'm buying mine from Stratham BMW. I've had a great experience with them so far, however, I don't think they get a ton of allocations.

Very helpful, I would consider doing it with Sudbury since I would like to get on soon with their higher allocation rate. Really 5k down though? I don’t mind the dead money, but I worry about them swallowing it if I back out. Thoughts?

Did you personally or anyone else do a standard color order with Sudbury?

Thank you

Mine came from Stratham as well. No complaints 👍 I had a custom order placed waiting on an allocation but ended up buying one they got in on the floor.

Mine came from Tulley. Good experience less the 5 month wait for an allocation. Got exactly what I wanted for MSRP..

Dealer tells me I am 6th in line. That seems like a good sign

I’ll second the $5k deposit. I went to Peabody BMW on the Boston North Shore. I’m told I’ll get an allocation sometime in June 🤞🏼.

I called Sudbury when I was looking and they told me 18 month wait. This was in the late fall.

They told me the wait would be about 12 months a couple months ago. Found a sooner allocation in NJ. Car already built, awaiting a ride from port.

My deposit was much less than that, Peabody must be very high demand area

When I put my deposit ($2500) down at Peabody in July they told me I should be looking at an October allocation. They said depending on the color combo the deposit would be a different amount. Well October came and went I waited all the way till January (6 months) and I went from 4th in line to 2nd in line in the span of 6 months. At some time they went 3 months without a single G80 allocation. After the January allocations dropped and they still didn't get any I called a broker and they got me an open allocation within the week for a MSRP deal.
No shade on Peabody they are very nice to deal with. I wasn't happy wasting 6 months of my time not moving in line.

Yeah, it was tough to keep hearing wait times of 9-12 months at dealers in MA. Tulley wouldn’t even accept an order since they have so many on their list. (Couldn’t send PM response.)

It all comes down to how badly you want your exact spec. If you’re willing to compromise on some options, you can probably find a car much sooner.

BMW Shrewsbury got me an allocation in one week in August 2022. 1500 refundable deposit, didn’t ask for anything else until the car arrived. A+ experience.

BMW Norwood also has some good people.

Call around.

Yeah you definitely want to call around. I contacted probably 40 dealerships up and down the east coast until I found one with an allocation. Had I stuck with my local area, I'd still be on a waitlist, not about to take delivery next week. All it's costing me is a $65 plane ticket to Boston and an eight hour drive back home.

You mean used right? I feel its not a realistic option bc AWD with active cruise is low take rate on these. Also trying to keep it sub 90k, not easy imo

I went through Stratham BMW. I'm just flying in to Boston to pick up the car. Sorry for the confusion!
