Wait till after break in to mod exhaust

Should I wait until after the 1200 mile service to install a mid pipe?

You don't have to.

I would wait.
If SA is cool with MODS, they wouldn't care but just the slightest chance that they can starts to hassle, don't think it's worth trying to put it on few hundreds miles before breakin. ( Yes, I know, it was dreadful hitting 1200 mark , still only have 800 miles on mine , trying to get early break in which can be done at 900 miles.
have exhaust, mid pipe, spring , intake waiting to be installed after breakin.

If you're concerned about the slightest issue with warranty, just wait until the first service is completed

Thanks for the responses. I think I will wait until after the break in service so they can't say the exhaust effected the break in some how.

I'm not sure I follow the logic of this. If you have the slightest issue with warranty you should never mod at all until the warranty is up.

Any service manager that's going to say that your warranty claim isn't being honored because you changed your exhaust before the break in service is the same service manager that's going to tell you that your warranty claim isn't being honored because you changed your exhaust after the break in service.

Nah. I put the valve controller on, removed both resonators and new mid pipe and not a peep.

My logic is as follows:
1. It's extremely unlikely any dealer would void the warranty due to an exhaust change.
2. The OP seems like he/she wants to mod if they are considering an exhaust when it isnt even broken in yet.
3. There is a lot of time/miles between the first break-in service and the next scheduled oil change
4. Installing an exhaust after the first service should be less worrisome because the honeymoon period of new car ownership would have worn off.
5. He would have likely spoken to the SA and felt more comfortable about the install

I am lucky since I work for BMW, so the service department do not care what I do to my car.

No one in the position you claim to be in would make this flex in a public forum. Your warranty claim for anything ‘significant’ will get scrutinized like all the rest. I expect you will get a discount on repairs if the claim is declined, which you should as an employee. Weird post to a 5 week old thread - what is your role at BMW?
