Maintenance Plan Early Oil Changes?

Any idea how early I can get my oil changes done on the 3 year maintenance plan that comes with the car brand new? I tend to get them done every 5000-6500 miles. I went in after a 6400 mile interval from my last oil change and they said that I’d have to cover it myself since the light wasn’t on. However, I went to another dealer after 6500 miles and they did cover it.

I change mine at 5k and pay and typically my year is up before 10k interval. I don't let them reset my oil interval.

If you give a shit about your engine and want to keep the car for a long time and REALLY drive it, change every 5k and reset service light every 10k. Yeah, you’ll need to either pay for that extra change or change it yourself if you’re into working on your own cars. Do this and you can redline the engine every time you take it out and it’ll turn 200k easily.

Always do both at the same time. I would never trust oil or the filter to 10k no matter what anyone says. I just did an oil change on my gf’s 2024 330i at 1,850 miles and the BMW OEM filter was already wrapped and coming apart. Consider it her break-in oil change😹 Did it myself, was pretty easy.

Umm, yeah…. Lol

Same process as a normal oil change. Only reason I don’t reset the mileage counter is because that gets reset every 10k or two oil changes. I do the changes anyway, so it doesn’t matter, but I like resetting it like that because it stays inline with the odometer like clockwork.

The 36000 mile/3-year maintenance plan includes an oil change every 10k miles or every year. If you were at 6400 miles and 9 months since your last oil change, that wouldn't be covered. If you were at 6500 miles and 11 or 12 months since your last oil change, that would be covered.

The dealers might have more leeway on those figures, but that's what could have happened.
