New M4 In Comfort Mode

Just curious here, is the new M4 Comp a true comfortable ride when in comfort, or is it still somewhat stiff? As an example, my M850 which has the HP pkg and conv tires, rides like a dream in comfort, and the M8 comp exhibited a surprisingly comfortable ride when in comfort, not as good as the M850, but not bad considering what it is.

My M4CX is almost like a stock 440 in comfort mode. Honestly very compliant and makes a great DD.

I’m very pleased with the ride in my G81 even with the 1000M 20/21 inch wheels lowered on the MPHAS kit. My car is a daily, I’ve done almost 20000km in the first 10 months of ownership.

I'd say that is a perfect way to describe the G8X. "Not bad considering what it is". No one complains about the ride in my M3. But in the same vein, my wife's Cayenne with PASM is much more compliant.

I daily drive mine as do many others and it won't beat you up at all. Is it somewhat fatiguing because it's a bit on the stiff side? Sure. It's not a luxury car. But it's entirely drivable.

For comparison, I did not buy an F80 M3 because the ride was not comfortable enough for me.

It's firm but compliant. In comfort, it's 100% comfortable enough to daily drive and take your family without much complaint.

I agree it’s firm in Comfort mode but I like it that way. The roads where I live are pretty good. I could see it being more of a challenge in places with potholes everywhere if daily driving.

There is no “comfort mode”, that’s a non-M term. You have the ability to configure the suspension, steering, brakes, throttle, and traction control independently.

I think your question is asking about the comfort suspension setting. If so, I find it very comfortable.

I cant speak to the vert but Im on my 3rd G80 and 2nd M8 and the M8 is not as comfortable in C mode as the G80- the suspension and damper set up in the G80 mated with the structure is better at enduring bumps and undulations.

Ive always felt that BMW finally got the chassis, spring, damper combo right with the new M and Im sure the 81 is no different.

It is not exactly smooth like a regular 3 or 4 series in any mode, but the damping when comparing comfort vs comfort in each car is similar.

I drive in comfort suspension 99% of the time, even when other settings are in sport or sport +. Those are a bit too bouncy.

Interior also got a mild touch around the dash/vent area and a new steering wheel.

Comfort is subjective. I personally find the M3/M4 to be a perfectly comfortable car, even in the sport suspension setting (in fact, I prefer the sport setting, as it has less bounce than comfort). Also, tires (and the pressure to which they are inflated) play a big role.

Yeah but you know exactly what we mean. All settings in the most compliant or least harsh mode. We can quibble over what to call it but “Comfort Mode” is easier than saying “with all the settings set to their most complaint setting”

Just saying’ 😉

The G8x cars have the perfect blend of sport and comfort IMO

I actually find all three settings perfectly usable on UK roads, which are renowned for being rougher and harsher to drive on that German roads, for example - more potholes and degraded surfaces for example.

Comfort is definitely comfortable - very complaint considering the car you are driving (obviously a different experience to a Merc S Class for example - of course it is!). You’d be disappointed if an M car wafted about wouldn’t you?

I don’t find much difference between Sport and Sport + tbh but both are definitely more focussed than Comfort.

I have my everyday “manual” mode as Sport (M1) and all-on max settings as Sport + (M2) but they are both great for everyday road use when having fun!

To be fair, the X3M had a suspension like an unladen F350.

I don’t. Some people mean m mode. Some people think of M1/M2. Plus, vagueness creates issues especially online vs in person. I’ve seen many threads where everyone assumed the incorrect language was one thing, but the OP meant something else.

Anyway, I find precise answers more helpful when I ask questions, I just assume everyone does. I guess not.

Fair comment - my point was that I find all settings (Comfort, Sport and Sport+) usable - I’ve read seen reviews that imply anything other than comfort are harsh for UK roads and I don’t agree

However to answer the OP - comfort is definitely comfort in an M4, it’s easily daily driveable and while firm, isn’t harsh at all (I should know I DD’d mine for 24k miles!)
