Nope, I had a feeling it was the integrated supply module based on my findings above. Thanks to a friend that one in a wrecked M4 at his shop, I was able to get this swapped, codes cleared automatically, and DME flashed.

That’s great news! How do you think it went bad?

I am not sure how the short occurred. My battery was unplugged for about 7 days when I was plugging the DME back in. The module contains various relays and fuses that are soldered to a board. Maybe, I had a loose connector going to the integrated supply module on the first try which blew it.

Glad to hear it was an easy fix. Enjoy the new power!

It's inside the sealed unit. 8638552-04 for Integrated Power Supply Module.

It's to the right of the DME, can't miss it as illustrated in my poorly highlighted image.

Hi guys quick q.
I have just processed the order for a femto unlock via their website.
I am arranging dhl express delivery.
The femto instructions say to send the unit back for testing.

On the dhl site it's only giving me a option to "send back for repair".

Has anyone else experienced this?

"Send back for repair" is a proper option to use. I did IIRC.

Those of you who unlocked the DME. All you needed to do to prevent software updates is just turn it off in the iDrive and on your App, correct? Its one setting for each?

I turned it off in the car. When I looked on the phone it was off, so I left it off.

Hey guys , I’m also new to this world. I got a 23 g80 and had a few questions. I recently sent out my dme a few days ago for femto. The first question I had is about the OTA updates. Is it fine if I only disable them through the app ? Or do I need to do them in the car too ? And I have to do it in the car before I put my ecu back on right ? Also , I was on jb4 before and I don’t remember if I put it back to map 0 or not 😂 , so I’m literally worried how this will effect the unlock of my ecu or when I flash my car for bm3. I also didn’t buy the bm3 license yet. Is that okay or not ? Please answer if you have knowledge about this. I’m kinda freaking out 😅

Besides OTA updates concern, I’m still trying to figure out how you get your car state inspected with the Femto unlock if they have to hook it up to OBD? wouldn’t that lock the ECU?

No. Just put the base map back on so if they do a comparison for code, it’s not a modified one. It should match up if you’re on the base calibration… for stupid states like California that check that. Most just check for O2 readiness being set and no hidden CELs.

OK thanks. So just connecting to OBD to check readiness won’t lock ECU, only if actual updates applied?

I still struggle with never being able to get any updates ever again on the car. What if there is mandatory software required at some point to keep the car functional, keep the display working, sensors, etc?

Correct, they're only looking at readiness codes and CELs.

Your concern would require they have some administrative way to take the car down. While that's possible, the amount of backlash they'd receive doing that is astronomical. I wouldn't be concerned about this.

Worst case scenario is something overwrites the unlock (dealer does an update, you enable OTA), and it has to go back to FEMTO.

This may be obvious but it can’t get my head around it

So you femto unlock, flash your new map, then a dealer or ota accidentally locks the ecu again

Are you locked in your flashed map state, or does the lock wipe the map and restore the oe ecu map?

Back to factory code/calibration for your specific VIN. You lose the unlock, you lose the tune.

That’s interesting

So every ota piece of software re-writes the ecu module as well?

I would have thought for bandwidth reasons bmw would only send data for the actual modules relating to the update
