Radar or Waze

What's everyone in Northern NJ/tri state area using?

I'm on the garden state parkway a lot and think Waze works great. Don't want to deal with a radar constantly beeping if it isn't as effective.

Both. Switched radar to Ka only, so it doesn't go off as much. My Achilles heel is laser. Gesture control sensors prevent running that and I don't care enough to put the energy into a workaround.

FYI from Ohio

Personally, laser jammers work better than radar. However having both of those would be ideal.

Waze has saved me a couple of times, that's why i only use that. For directions and everything else. I don't even bother with the stock shitty nav system.

Waze all day.

Waze, Uniden R7 and ALP system. The ALP system I dont have. It's about $2,000-$3,000 to get installed.

I personally know cops that use Waze and will downvote police detection notifications so they disappear, hiding the speed trap. There's TikToks of cops doing this for fun.

Run Waze, but get a detector. I'm a huge fan of my Uniden R7. Looks like the R8 is out.

Uniden R7 here...Ka-only mode (like the gentlemen from Ohio). I love it. I never got into Waze, but I know many people who absolutely swear by it

Everyone i know of loves waze.

If you're driving long distances and/or love to put your foot down, gotta have both.

It's hard for me to not have waze running when i drive now. It's like part of the driving experience lol

How do you get Waze to show all police... hidden, other side and in sight.

I don't think that's a setting, doesn't it just alert you for all police (that have been tagged)?

Which radar?

I've had luck in my M5 by mounting the radar to the upper right of the rear view mirror with a 360MAX

Escort Passport 9500ix. Mounted low on my windshield with rubber suction cups and the cord snaking around the right side of my center display to the 12v plug. Very 2010. My setup may induce vomiting for some, but it works for me.

Try where I have mine mounted. I've tried 3 different radars in that location. It takes maybe 5 minutes of trial and error to get it just right.

That is the same position I put the same radar in the same car (M5 LCI). I had my Max360 hardwired to the fusebox under the glovebox. It's a couple of years old, but still works great. Ka in NJ (price hasn't changed in 2-3 years). It marks locations and auto mutes after a short alarm. I liked that right of the mirror location (by the windshield dot matrix bumps) better than a blendamount mirror mount as it's mostly hidden. I'm not much into custom, built-in installs. A little overkill.

Maybe update the incoming M4 with a Max360 Red? Never tried the Uniden R7 but Ka only would work great in NJ.

I've been using an R7 for about the last week with Waze in the background. Saw two cops on the median on two separate occasions (one on Parkway, the other I don't remember), but apparently they weren't running radar/laser.

I have been using a Valentine One Gen2 with JBV1 and Waze. Waze is integrated with GBV1. Best of both worlds...

Yes, same thing happened to me on a Spartanburg Performance Center road trip with the M5 last year.. Had both the Max360 on and my wife had Waze on her phone (in an vent holder). So we were cruising downhill on I think I-80 IN NC and my wife wanted to snap a quick picture of the sun on the mountains (Blueridge I think?).Anyway, the 360 was quiet so I said go ahead, but quickly.

Not 30 seconds after she resumed Waze, it said "Police reported ahead", and then I saw a NC State Trooper and braked. By the time I slowed down, it was too late and he pulled me over. I had no clue how fast I was going, just felt like coasting downhill, he just said I was going very fast and saw my break lights hit. He ran my docs and let me go with a written warning after explaining what happened since I had a clean license. That M5 was a sleeper beast, It was like a couch welded to a space shuttle.

Both. I drove cross-country CA to NJ in a 1-week span and between Waze and the R7 it alerted to just about every cop along the way across 11 states.

R7 didn't work in Ohio (OSHP) though for some weird reason. Perhaps they use laser, not sure, but in any case it showed up on Waze.

I think laser would be overkill unless your state uses it for a fact or you're doing the Cannonball run LOL.
