RWD in so cal for daily driving?
Hi guys,
Checking out an m3 comp tomorrow and looking to take it home. Going to be using this 3-4 days a week to daily drive to work (~50 miles round trip). My only concern is the wet weather come winter time, if AWD is highly recommended. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

bighamsterneck, just my 2 cents, When I ordered my 2022 BMW G8 M4 Comp, the SA asked if I wanted XDrive. I asked the SA can he recall the last time it even rained in Southern California?
Although, my M4 will be PPF and Garage 90% of the time( never in the rain) (Garage queen), I was told unless your taking the car to the track, there's no need for XDrive in Southern California. Are you driving the car to BIG Bear in the fall? Maybe!!! Or North of San Francisco in the winter? Maybe!! |

I'm in SoCal as well.
I have a family and this car is going to be my daily driver. Even though we usually take the SUV, I'm going with AWD. Realistically it won't make much of a difference but it does add a small level of safety / control in any condition. If the price difference is negligible to you, then the extra traction is worth it. IMO. |

It will be fine. I think what kind of tires you have will matter more than anything.
From my own experience, I used to have a 18' STI (i.e. - AWD) in the Bay Area, where it still doesn't rain that much but definitely more than here, and let me tell you it was complete overkill on Michelin Pilot Sports. Overly stable even in the wet, with T/C *off*, to the point of being straight up frustrating lol. Personally looking forward to getting a little bit squirrely in the M3 once it does rain here in SoCal. So unless you plan on hitting some really serious weather with frequency or racing through canyons in the rain I think you're good with RWD. I wouldn't even bother with xDrive. Spend that extra $3k or whatever it is or on the stickiest tires you can find if you're really concerned. |

When you live in California. You dont choose AWD for weather! You choose AWD for better performance. Get the AWD!!!
