I thought new body regular 3 series has been out since 2018 but it hasnt. Since the new 3 has been out for what 2 years already. By 2023 model year there will be an LCI to include M3 which means pre LCI there will be a 2022 M3 Comp awd and a year later 2023 model will be LCI

My understanding is that the G83 would only be offered as AWD. Maybe we get lucky, and the G83 SOP is March 2021, then the G80/G82 follows with SOP July 2021?
I can't see BMW waiting a full year since the EOP for the F83, as rumor has it that the G23 should have market release shortly. There is a aprox 4 month gap between the G22 to G82, hoping that the G83 stays to this time frame.

Correction, lease can be extended up to 6 months with a production number. Wait the 2 months, then extend an other 4 months when you have a production number.

I have had two 12 month extensions from BMW FS in the past waiting for a new model.

All of the Gxx xDrive models have the same mechanical layout for all intents and purposes. M XDrive has some electronic system and functionality differences of its own, and M SAV have different operating conditions from the M passenger cars. I'm guessing the X3/4/5/6 not having a Front Axle Inhibit mode (2WD) is the basis of speculation when it comes to M3/4.

I thought the same as him when reading your post initially, but now that you mention it, it reminds me that the LCI is tied to the series model.

unless the RWD only is really THAT much lighter, I really dont see the need to have a staggered model range.

The G20/G21/G80 LCI should tentatively take place July 2022, which means MY2023 for North America. So, the AWD M3 will have a single calendar year and single model year of production before the LCI while the RWD M3 will have a little over a year and half of production and two model years before the LCI. Incidentally, since the G80 M3 is starting production in 2020 (and will thus be deemed MY2021), it actually comes closer on the heels of the 3 Series than the F80 M3 did. That model started production in March 2014 (US production) following F30 SOP in November 2011 and was labeled MY2015. Had the G80 been on the same timeline, it would not be here until March 2021 and would have most likely been designated MY2022. |

You cannot use this ZF AWD system with the M-DCT or a manual transmission so thankfully BMW chose to give us a separate RWD and manual model for those of us who want to buy that since the AWD can only exist in conjunction with the 8AT. It may physically be possible to develop a transfer case that mounts behind their manual trans like a Lancer Evolution but we all know they aren't about to invest that much for the few of us who would want manual + AWD (I'm included in that small minority). Imagine the uproar if the M3 was not only fugly but also automatic-only and AWD-only. Last edited by Remonster; 08-24-2020 at 03:20 PM.. |

And again, AWD switched on or off is controversial on the track and the M3 is a car with track ambitions. |

AMG MCT 4matic+ is internal integration and requires the vehicle to be stopped to engage Drift Mode. 8DT PDK4 is internal integration and configured in a manner in which it is not possible to decouple the front axle. |

If the G20 follows the F30 model year-LCI convention then the G20 LCI will be on MY2022 - that is, 4 model years ('18, '19, '20, '21) and then LCI for 3 years ('22, '23, '24) = 7-year model run. For reference, the F30 was '12, '13, '14, '15 (F80), then LCI '16, '17, and then a second LCI for the F80 (to match the LCI front of the F32) in '18. This was a change from the E46 and the E90 sedan model years -LCI after 3 model years. The E36 was LCI after 4 model years. |
