So I finally heard back from my dealer in New Jersey. My car does need a recall (really frustrating...). However, BMW North America is still confirming the recall release date, when required parts will be available, and the actual remedy for the recall. There's no ETA on when the details will be finalized at this point. They also mentioned we can continue driving the car in the meantime. Will share more as more info becomes available.

Even worse, if there is something about the bearings' design that is a fundamental design flaw (cough Audi piston rings cough) and BMW makes a statistical bet on how many will fail in warranty vs out of warranty as the recall effort is very expensive. These design flaws are not considered safety and are all about the $$&. Lots of examples from the luxury care world |

I am thinking and hoping that BMW would lock us down if this issue will cause catastrophic engine failure. Imagine the safety issues that would arise if someone was driving and the car just went poooof- thats our concern and I wont even mention the costs to replace so many S58's. What sucks is my SA accidentally first pulled up my old G80 (2021 PB Comp) and of course that thing only has some software update due So WTF happened in 2 plus months of production that has put our engines at risk?

Well, since my VIN doesn't fall under the affected VINs, lets get this POS RAM issue completed, and deliver my car, already. It'll be 3 months, on Thursday, since I ordered my car.

They designed and manufactured inflators using cheaper gas generants that degrade and breakdown into powder form when exposed to moisture. The propellant in powder form burns MUCH quicker than grain form, resulting in a much higher surge in gas pressure. Basically the gas inflator became a grenade in the steering wheel ready to go off in the event of a collision. The affected vehicle range, brand, model, year, etc. was too big to cover in a single recall. They did it in phases. Just manufacturing the replacement inflators became a huge business for competitors. The Takata recall was one of the biggest incidents in automotive history and the case cannot be applied to other generic recalls like this one. Although I do not have information about this bearing recall any more than you do, I doubt it'll be of that magnitude. A batch/lot of bad parts get produced quite often in the field of manufacturing and QA. It's not the end of the world and can be remedied. But yes, I do feel bad for those affected. I hope BMW makes it right for the owners going through this ordeal. |

3 months is normal lol. I ordered mine in mid-June and got it in mid-September. I felt lucky as I know people who have been waiting on their cars for 4-6 months.

I'm affected by the RAM stop sale but not the main bearing, yet my car was within the production dates for the latter. The odd thing is that it's on its way to the states and it seems as it will get fixed here, yet my car sat at the port for some time too. Dealer says they don't suspect much of a delay due to it when it gets here. Not sure how accurate that is.
Another thing I found out today is that the actual date it left the port was on 10/2, yet when I checked on 10/4 it said it was still at the port, it is expected to get to the US on the 16th. Reason I'm sharing this info is because it's crazy how different everyone's experience is. Some are waiting on the RAM issue at the port, some shipped off (like mine) to be dealt with elsewhere, some have the bearing issue. Point is that, unless it's been confirmed that your specific vehicle has the bearing stop sale, relax and don't worry as much as I did. Good luck to all! |

My car prod. date is 8/18. Just got done signing papers and will be picking it up either tomorrow or the next day. Prior to today, I checked the Uk site and it showed 0 recall and of course the us site is up yet. I called into BMW NA and the rep confirmed that my vin is not affected by the Main Bearing Shell.
I was able to have another vin that showed 1 open recall on the UK site and 0 on the US site. I asked the rep to check that vin too and she came back with that Vin is affected and we cannot sell that vehicle until we fix the issue. So if you guys are curious, give BMW NA a call and they will let you know. |
