Now if we could just figure out how to keep the valves open permanently I think we'll have a pretty awesome soundtrack. Also have you put down your back seats for some more sound in cabin? |

I didnt drive the car this week but I just opened the garage and did this cold start video... the small cracks are actually loud in person (Cell Vid) I did turn on all the electronics inside without turning on the engine, hit my M2 button (all agro settings) and then started it which gives the full valve open start.

Yeah either of the resonator spots should work. Generally when it comes to X and H pipes, and X results in a higher pitch where as an H results in a lower pitch. Just food for thought as you decide what type of tone you want

Vic55 the one thing I want to clarify for the thread is that an X or H won’t fundamentally change the tone, rather it modifies it or accentuates/tempers certain characteristics. If you like the stock tone but want more volume or want to intensify a certain quality then you are golden with the X or H in the current setup
If you are looking to change the tone itself (say to sound more like B58), you’ll have to play with the pipe lengths - I know BMW said they equalized the pipes but it really doesn’t sound like they did. Valvetronic’s upcoming midpipe equalized them and has a shift in the underlying tone, which is why it sounds the way it does. EDIT: ACremona22 I just saw your earlier comment about B58 sounding better - if you like that type of sound you will need to equalize the independent exhaust pipe lengths prior to merging them as I am alluding to above. Check out valvetronic’s video on their G80 mid-pipe, that is what an equal length exhaust sounds like. B58 (and N55) are inherently equal length as they are a single turbo that collects into a single exhaust pipe.

Sounds like a tuneless raspy mess to me, pretty indistinguishable from an S55. Sounds a touch more equal length than an s55 but the duelling 3 cylinder sound is very present. Personally I'd be adding more resonators to smooth it out not deleting them. The S turbo motors are so raspy to begin with, for more volume you may be better off deleting the secondary cats or changing the muffler and altering the midpipe for a more equal tone. Kudos to you for being the guinea pig though!

This sounds great, except... I don't think I can do those burbles. The S58 has a strange gravel burble that sort of goes on and on at times and this increases the volume of that in a not good way IMO. The burbles sound ok to me in stock form but I wouldn't want to highlight them.
Do you find that aspect a little too much or not a bother with the resonator delete? |

Wtf do all you mean it sounds great? It sounds like a Diesel truck combined with a raspy Honda Civic.
A B58 sounds great, a Porsche GT3 RS sounds great, hell even a Corvette sounds great. But for goodness sake that sounds terrible - far worse than the F8X. BMW claims they did an equal length exhaust from the factory, but it doesn’t sound like it at all. |

I feel like if you backed up (in mostly all these cases) the sound would come out a lot better on video.

Wow Vic55 congrats on the front page!
I like the way this sounds! Sec cat delete might just complete it. You've inspired me again and I may do this and cat del on my m3c whenever that thing decides to show up. Enjoy the ride bro.

In my opinion rasp is aggressive and raw, and not to mention S55 and S58 both when driven extremely hard and warmed up as intended have 0 rasp even straight piped. It seems like everyone commutes their 15 minutes to work doing 30 mph and complains about "rasp". Ya no fuck, these cars don't sound good until really opened up. Just my opinion, but i feel the B58, N55 etc all sound muffled |
