I raised the ride height a bit yesterday. After settling it dropped by half an inch. I raised it a little so the front is 1/4" higher than the rear.

Same here. My rears were already settled. With the new springs I had to let them settle again and they settled quite a bit. Had to raise the height some. I was coming in at a steep angle just to clear my driveway. Now it's bearable.

Indeed I do, the optics are negligible in nature- the ride is probably more compliant but I cant give you empiricals behind that sadly. This will still settle a few more mm's as well.

I think the fixed height hack was just a bit too low especially with my front lip spoiler added on.

So what is the proper (factory?) stance? Is the front supposed to be 5 mm lower than the rear? Higher? Or is it all just aethetic preference?

If you want aesthetic, you can dial it all you want.
If I remember correctly, the rear is 1/2" lower than front on G80 M3.

Is it hard to adjust the rear with the perch being in the middle of two springs?

It's impossible to adjust the rear when installed. You have to take it apart, readjust then put it back together. The front on the other hand is much easier. I can adjust it with my hands, no tools required.

Just because where the spring is, it is hard to adjust it.
Even KW HAS is easier and faster to remove it to adjust.
