There have been quite a few threads on the subject of updates and although frequently asked, I don’t recall anyone finding a way to force an update through OTA.
One person claimed success by telling their dealer they had an issue (I think with CarPlay syncing) and the dealer did an update.

I managed to push the update via the app.

The shifting seems much smoother. Very pleased with the update.

Good!
For the benefit of others who have the same issue, can you share how you got the app to find the update?

So the snappy “DCT-like” shifts in S3 & D3 when pushing the car hard are gone now? If so, that’s a huge disappointment.

No, I mean the car seems to shift faster now. Going from 4th to 5th in D3 was slow and clunky but now it is isntantaneous.

It feels more powerful..

I did a VIN lookup on BMWUsa then opened my app and it then popped up saying software available for download.

I think some confusion is setting in here.

Is this what happened?:
  • So you originally checked the MyBMW app and it did not indicate any update was available.
  • You posted here asking how you could force an update download.
  • I replied that others with this problem had not been able to force an update - the app passively notifies when one is available to download.
  • You then said you did a VIN lookup on BMWUSA and that triggered the app to notify that there actually was an update available for your car.
This is not meant to be argumentative or a challenge, just seeking clarification as there are people here who have not been getting updates through the app and have been looking for a solution.

Yes, this is exactly what I had done.

-The VIN lookup said "No updates required"
-I logged out of MyBMW app and re-logged in
-At that point it said "Remote Software Update Available"
-I downloaded the update and transferred it to the car (Drove for 21 minutes)
-Parked for 19 minutes and completed the update.

Good to know - thanks!
I don't know if people tried the MyBMW logout and login approach... although in retrospect it seems like a smart idea.

Just did update, previously 7.22. No noticeable difference in shifts, or performance. Did have to recode ASD off, lighting, seat belt chimes, etc.

I successfully downloaded the new update to the app but it doesn’t upload from the app to the car. Stays stuck in step 2 despite driving around for a couple days now.

Have you connected Bluetooth AND WiFI?

You need to connect both for it to start syncing.

The weirdest part of the update was that it would only install WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I was running errands very close to home and the install stopped after I parked. Had to keep it in idle for 10 mins or so to finish the installation.

This is not normal. Normally it has a checklist of procedures that have to be done in order for the head unit to reboot. Example: Park brake applied.

You have to love the detailed release notes. Likely written by the same crack team who write the user manuals.

This Remote Software Upgrade updates existing functions for equipped vehicles and includes quality enhancements

So I updated from 7/2022 to 11/2022.60. Since delivery, I could have SWORN (2022 M4 CompX) that default settings were all comfort and efficient WITH auto start stop defaulted to off. I did not code it out. I have updated before via OTA and did not have to code this out. Now, at the default, ASS is defaulted to on.

I had to do this on my G22 but that is the last time I ever recall coding that out. Am I crazy?

Auto Stop/Start will remember the last used setting on M3/M4, so if you turn it off, it will stay off. No coding necessary on G8X platform (in the USA).

Funny thing you mentioned. ASS remembers ur last setting and I had turned it off when I first got the car last year and forgot about it. After the update, I was at the stop light and realized that my engine turned off. If you turn it back off, it will remember this setting going forward and remain off. No need to code it
