I disagree that it's safe to travel "at excessive speed" on any public highway unless it's done very sporadically. For example if it was a straight road with good visibility for miles and no one else, then sure I would be ok to launch and do high speed but I would not drive regularly at such speeds on roads. There are just too many variables that cannot be accounted for most of all other drivers who are likely clueless. |

Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over son?
Answer: Hmnnn...coz you saw my awesome car and wanted to see it up close and personal Joke of the day: A policeman flags down a driver. After pulling him over, the policeman approached the driver’s door. “Is there a problem, Officer?” The policeman says, “Sir, you were speeding. Can I see your license please?” The driver responds, “I’d give it to you but I don’t have one.” “You don’t have one?” The man responds, “I lost it four times for drunk driving.” The policeman is shocked. “I see. Can I see your vehicle registration papers please?” “I’m sorry, I can’t do that.” The policeman says, “Why not?” “I stole this car.” The officer says, “Stole it?” The man says, “Yes, and I killed the owner.” At this point the officer is getting irate. “You what?” “She’s in the trunk if you want to see.” The Officer looks at the man and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes, five police cars show up, surrounding the car. A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half-drawn gun. The senior officer says, “Sir, could you step out of your vehicle please!” The man steps out of his vehicle. “Is there a problem, sir?” “One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and murdered the owner.” “Murdered the owner?” The officer responds, “Yes, could you please open the trunk of your car please?” The man opens the trunk, revealing nothing but an empty trunk. The officer says, “Is this your car sir?” The man says, “Yes” and hands over the registration papers. The officer, understandably, is quite stunned. “One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving license.” The man digs in his pocket revealing a wallet and hands it to the officer. The officer opens the wallet and examines the license. He looks quite puzzled. “Thank you, sir. One of my officers told me you didn’t have a license, stole this car, and murdered the owner.” The man replies, “I bet you the lying bastard told you I was speeding, too!” |

176 mph, I95 N in South Carolina. It was 2am and the interstate was completely empty due to an approaching snowstorm. Took advantage of those long straight stretches to open it up on my way north to PA.

my state troopers are not that friendly. did you just admit to doing 60mph in a 55mph zone? here's your ticket. have a nice day. yes, they pull people over for 3mph over 55mph over here and the traffic court judges seemed to be in cohoots with the troopers.

this thread is why BMW needs to bring European delivery back! even Mercedes stopped doing European dealer. Sad.
in 1999, I too delivery of my Mercedes at that time and took it up to 138mph on the Authbahn after a few days of slow driving to break it in. It was electronically limited as the tires weren't performance tires. After the car was shipped back to the US, I picked it up at the dealer a few weeks later. I "apologized" to the car because it was doomed to spend a lifetime doing less than 80mph here in the US. |

on German highways and Autobahns(sad but true). Use extreme caution if it's your first time going over 100mph. I was fortunate because my German friend basically taught me how to drive fast but safely at those insane speeds. He was actually my late father's friend and he also passed away recently. Not sure if I'm allowed to say this on this forum, but driving on the Autobahn was 100 times more exhilarating than the first time I lost my virginity in high school ages ago. |
