Why does this always happen when I am pulling into a new town, the directions lock, I miss my turn, and then have to pull over to get an alternate and hopefully make to to my destination on time?

Why did BMW not include a hard wired connection option so we can plug our phones in and get a solid reliable connection?

Argh.

I wonder if it is the heat of the phone in the charger that is causing the disconnect? It always seems to happen after 30-45 minutes of driving and while pulling into a new town where I need directions.... (Yes, I still have phone service.)

You might have a phone issue, I have never had a single disconnect with my iphone 12 mini using carplay running waze and spotify always.

Does this issue also occur with another phone? You might want to test that first to help pinpoint if it's the car or your phone.

I second this OP. The only time I had a CarPlay issue was when I accidentally left my VPN on and didn't know lol. Never had any issue. Maps, Apple Music, messages etc all going off, no issues

It might be an issue with phone heat. I always set the phone on the wireless charger and when it disconnects the phone is usually pretty hot.

I will be putting it somewhere else on long trips (don’t really have any planned) to see if it stays connected.

I read some warning about wireless charging but just had to check that box!

It's not for me. It's an interference issue. It drops 100% of the time in the same spot near my house. It reconnects as I drive past the area.

My brother in law has a Maserati with wireless CarPlay. His drops in the same spot near his house, but oddly not in the spot where mine drops.

It's definitely annoying.

Whenever I have trouble with the head unit, I just hard reset it. It's worked every time for me.

Hold the volume button down. The one next to the preset buttons. Unless you have a 2023, it may not make much sense if you do.

Hold down the volume button until the infotainment center goes black and resets. It literally takes like :30 seconds. And just when you think you're holding it too long, and it's not doing anything, hold it down, longer. It will hard reset.

I might just try that. I don't have issues with carplay 99.9% of the time. The ONLY time I do is when I cross a specific intersection. It is bizarre. When I'm around that intersection my carplay disconnects. It also does this with android auto back when I had a Samsung.
