Hello,

Can anyone please tell me if there is a way for when I open my car door when it's been off, for the radio to NOT turn on. It's so annoying and I have no idea how to make that stop.

I'm trying to remember to turn the radio off before I get out out but it's usually blaring so when I go back into my car, I get a loud radio for however long before it turns off when all I wanted was to get something out of my car.

No, it's on whatever you had it on when you got out.

So turn it off or get into the habit of turning the volume down to zero.

I think there is a coding option for max volume at start-up. I wonder if you could set that to 0?

Really, this is a thing? So BMW's are like Teslas now. Does it literally start when you open the door or not until you hit the ignition?

Ugh, this is going to be fun to work around.

You could try changing the stereo setting to turn off radio when the door opens after driving (rather than it turn off once locked). That might keep the radio off when you come back.

Yeah, this radio/door thing is annoying as hell. The thing turns on the radio if/when you just open the door. Then when you close it, it continues to play for a while before it turns off. Wtf?

I listen to my music loud so I'm trying to get in the habit of turning it down before I shut it down.

I guess they really like their radio playing in Germany. I don't get the attraction of that since I never minded turning the key or hitting the button before I got radio.

There is a setting in idrive you can change to make it turn off when you open a door. Otherwise it will keep playing assuming you left someone in the car. If you lock it, it will stop playing music.

If you dont like that, go into idrive and change the power mode to turn off when door open.

Do you know where in idrive that I can change the power mode to turn off because I have not been able to find that?

I think its in the door lock section.

I dont think radio / or music source plays right away upon door opened, at least with my car. We have 2 different BMWs and the same behaviour. The Welcome screen with driver profile displayed and nothing played until Start button pressed.

Bimmercode can also set the max volume on start up, standard is 25%, I'm not sure if it can go lower, never tried.

That's strange. Mine does every time I open the door without even getting in it. What bmr's do you have that don't do this?

It is a quirk, for sure. Mine does this, so, I’ve made it a habit to turn off the stereo using the button on the center stack. Otherwise, the thing just keeps playing music until locked. Very annoying, as is the solution.

And then there’s also bigworms’ solution, as mentioned above.

Neither is ideal…especially when it’s just an unlock to get something out of the car, or, if you forget to lock the car in the garage.

What year is your m4? What about the others?

Just curious when they started doing this since none of my other bmr's did this as well.

My 24 m4 comp X does it. It’s weird if nothing else. I don’t like hearing it inside the car still after the doors are closed. Who are they playing for anyways!?

It's 21 model year. Others are 19 and 22.

It could be market dependent ? Aussie market is the same as European I think. Audio / idrive turned off upon door opened (and no front passenger). Profile welcome displayed upon door opened from unlocking, nothing played until Start button press / or Profile selected.

Now I was able to check this out on my M4 Comp. x-Drive of 4/2022 with OS7 / German version:

In the settings for the doors I have, other thanMMnut, un-checked "Turn audio / idrive off upon door opened". As well un-checked is "Unlock doors at motor shutdown".

Now the radio/audio plays even when I close the door and is not muted until I lock the doors manually (I have no comfort access installed).

When I approach the car and unlock the driver's door, audio keeps silent (when fiddling around with the volume knob, a struck-out speaker symbol is displayed).

Not before I activate the start button, radio begins to play with the settings which were active when I locked the car.
So the same behavior as MMnut has it in his car.

Seems to be a country-based coding matter when the above-mentioned settings don't keep the audio muted until start.

This has been driving me crazy too! I went to grab something in my car in the garage and the radio turns on and stays on even when i close the door again. So basically I have to lock the car again for it to turn off?

Same experience with my 2023. This is flaw that should be an easy software fix ... if BMW wanted to help.
