G82 AC Issue

Just took the new M4 for a spin to have his first state inspection done and the AC doesn't cool down at all. I'm in freaking Texas, 104 F right now. I did PDC on it and was wondering if they or somebody forgot to add gas to the AC system. Never had a brand new car the AC not working. What settings do you guys have on your climate control screen?

Not to be too obvious, but did you check to make sure the a/c compressor is on? Hit the AC menu button, then scroll down a few items and you’ll get to something that looks like driver cooling settings (I forget exactly - I’m not in my G80), and there’s a box to check and un-check to turn the compressor on and off.

Friday when I picked my car up from exhaust install, it was in the 90s and humid. The vents were blowing hot air. Checked the setting, turned the ac compressor back on, and then ice cold.

Reviving thread, I have no AC in my 2023 G80 M3 comp. I have not had the car in the warm weather until now since it is starting to warm up. I have had numerous issues with mine since I have had it.

Belt replaced, belt tensioner, TPM sensor, Steering wheel aligned, now AC not cold. My service advisor has quickly become my friend lol. I have mine scheduled to have the AC system diagnosed. Predicting low/no refrigerant as I have been seeing alot of german cars coming in with no refrigerant due to catching up on production last year.

I seem to recall some posts about this issue when original post was first made? I may have been on another thread if you searched this one? Seems like someone mentioned low refrigerant as an issue along with other critical checks that were supposed to be made before delivery but were not. For example there have been many posts regarding the shipping blocks not being removed from the springs before customer drove off the lot, only to experience terrrible handling on the way home.

Did you go into the climate menu and move the “temperature adjustment” slider all the way to cool? By default it’s in the middle between hot and cold. I had the same issue with my X5.

If you move it all the way to the left it’ll make a difference.

If you’re familiar with older BMW’s It’s the same function as the analog slider circled on this E46 dash. With new models It’s now buried digitally in the climate menu.

My service advisor is cool with me since we both work in the car business. But man you can't make this stuff up. It has literally been one thing after another. My heads up display is also intermittent, known issue with ID8. I expect a software rollout in the near future.

In the meantime, I was burning up today in just 70 degree F weather in my car. The AC is blowing ambient temp air. No bueno

Update: My car only took a day to fix, they hooked it up to the r1234yf refrigerant machine and it read 0.0g, no fluid at all in the system. Spec is 550g of refrigerant. They added dye and let it sit overnight to verify no leaking, sure enough no leaks.

The Germans have really screwed me over more than once so far

You figure German "engineering" would 'remember' to charge the A/C...glad you got it fixed. Have had no problem with my '21 M4C. Do slide the top temp control all the way to cool in the summer, and A/C blows almost as cold as my Vettes did, and no car is better than they were.

I never thought of this...I am a commercial hvac guy and all new equipment is shipped with nitrogen, I have a technical process I have to floow to pull a vacuum and replace it with the gas I am using. I guess cars come pre charged like a residential unit

My advisor said this was only the 2nd car he's seen in his 9 years that has come in with no refrigerant. I told him if it is going to happen, it's going to be me! I am one of the unluckiest people you will ever encounter. Glad its fixed!

Very strange. In the German factory. The fluids station only does that. The worker then needs to manually scan each fluid as completed.

It's all good! At least it's not an issue! Before I pick up my car, I am asking the dealer to check two things:
  1. A/C Refrigerant
  2. Shipping blocks removed?

Definitely have them check! The shipping blocks should be obvious lol doesn't it make the car sit up slightly higher? Make sure that air blows ice cold!

Ya we all think it would be obvious regarding the blocks, but based on these forums, there have been 4-5 cases it seems.

Definitely shipping blocks. I’ve seen 20 or more between BP and Facebook. I’ve consistently seen a few a month since this car was released. Luckily for me, there was no question. My PDi tech put the spacers in the trunk, in a ziplock with plastic zip ties holding them all together.

Happened to me. And local tech from other brand says it happens to their new pandemic-built cars often.

I have fresh can of refrigerant and the gauge to fix iF happens mid summer on road trip. Dealer promised not to take 2 months for service this time.

AC has gone out again on my G80 M3. When they fixed it a month ago, there was no refrigerant in the system at all. They added dye to the fluid incase it leaked in the future. Car is currently at the dealer and they are going to continue trying to troubleshoot this week to find where it's losing fluid.

Cannot believe the number of issues I have had with this car

Can't believe that either. There's way too many issues with this car and they are mostly due to lacking QC.

I can't believe you had a repeat A/C problem. If you have anymore A/C issues, you may have your user name changed to KrispY instead!
