It seems that even with the street tiers, the M4 is faster than many super sports cars on such a small and technical track! https://fastestlaps.com/tracks/vairano-handling-course It would be interesting to see the times with AWD. Last edited by PeregrineFalcon; 03-30-2021 at 06:51 AM.. |

I forgot to mention the weight of the F80 M3 30 Jahre: 1752kg (again with +100kgs), only 64kg less than the M4 G82 (both with CCBs).
A little bit less than the +200kgs announced by some keyboard warriors |

Yeah, I really liked the car from the beginning, but when people started pulling the +200 kg numbers I was very disappointed (I was thinking, that would be disastrous if ends up to be the case)! Fortunately the car is not that much heavier, and the performance is overwhelming!!! |

Actually it's not a very technical test, it's more "emotional". Title: queen of sideways The summary comes at 12.35: Has become similar to the M5, very powerful, fun to drive but also comfortable. If you like the old M3, a smaller car that's a bit twitchy and to be treated with respect, you have the M2CS for that. Pros: driving pleasure, versatile sport car Cons: not 10 cum laude gearbox, weight |

What was the timing for the G82 on the circuit? I see 1:14 184 and 1:15 012 timings at the top right hand corner of the photo.

1.14.184 with DSC off, 1.15.012 with MDM mode. Very small difference, MDM mode seems to work very well.
On the Giulia Q, the difference between fully off and Dynamic mode (the most permissive dsc setting) is 2.7 seconds. |

I remember when the alfa giulia came out. How ulgy that nose was. OMg. So ugly. Flash forward a few years and now the G8X line looks just as ugly. SMH.
To me the G8X M3/M4 and Alfa Giulia are two ugly sisters fighting over who will ride them. lol.

The M4 G82 with the Cup2 was 1.22 seconds faster at the Sachsenring than the PS4S. Still a noticeable difference.

Apparently the only "real" difference between the 2 cars is the tires. |

I started this thread, as a regular track day enthusiast excited to see the next iteration 'M3', the latest in the series that has become a popular track day car since the birth of the e30. As a track day enthusiast, I like many others get to understand more about the secret sauce of what makes a car quick on track. CofG, weight, weight distribution, suspension setup, even down to gearbox choice and tyres has a tangible effect on lap times. Very few track day cars remain standard, we get to know the tweaks that need to be made to extract more performance. We watched the G80 technical videos, then we saw the lap times in the hands of competent journalists. Times were impressive to say the least. I'm not the only one that has felt there was something not quite as it should be here. The G80 is not lighter, it doesn't have a track focussed DCT, lightweight battery, torque vectoring, double front wishbone suspension……or anything significant that explained a progression in performance, and yet it was there to see in lap times. This tyre information is the missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle to me. I'm not saying tyres are the only reason it is faster than say a F82 comp. There are other factors that I know about that also contribute, they just weren't enough to explain the difference. |
