Either that or I change directions completely and buy a new G550 which I love. That's the current debate. Spending twice as much as the M3 and getting a new 992 is most likely outcome if M3 gets hit by the ugly stick. There is a dismal, sad part of me still holding out hope that somehow they tie it all together better than the concept and it looks good. |

It really depends heavily on the specific model and the overall condition of the car itself.

However if I had the Porsche budget I would not hesitate to get a 911. I have test driven a couple and consider them great cars, and, yes, M has not beaten Porsche yet and I don't think they are trying actually (not that it would be an easy job for them). Regarding prices I think all cars these days are getting overpriced trying to pay CEO bonuses and provide return on investment. I think it's time the car market crashes like the housing market does...

That is why an M2 exists. Enjoy the smaller car, for those that want/need a 5 passenger sedan The M3 is a great all-rounder.
For the practical nature of a 4door car with a very large trunk, it is kind of a marvel that it handles as well as it does. |

I have a 1M..... I absolutely love small cars, but the people that complain about the M3 being too big, conveniently forget that BMW now makes an M2 to replace the old size... In 2020 1M=E30 M2=E46 M3=E39 |

Keep dreaming, less than 3000 lbs is never going to happen in a M2. The only things close are the Miata and 86/FRS. The Cayman and Zupra twins aren’t even below 3000.

Or...they just don't load it up with so much stuff...but I know this goes against common-sense in car-engineering these days

I mean I'm personally with you on that one... my 981 was super low optioned so it was sub 3000 lb but I sadly don't think auto makers will de-content their cars going forward since they know they can do it as a special edition and charge even more for it.

Just think of it as an aggressively lowered X2 and you'll be happy. (at least that's what BMW seem to think).

Pro tip - Just buy a track car and then you won't be hell bent on having a stripped down daily driver. Every reviewer that's done the new miata says it's loud and rattly like driving in a tin can. I that's the experience you want then not sure why you'd choose a bmw, much less a 4 door sedan.
I'll gladly take on the weight with the way they hide it and provide great driving dynamics. 90% of these will have more investment in options and modifications than money spent on actual track time. |
