So found a dealer that wasn’t as insane. White with the black carbon fiber package. $4k markup but they offered $73k on my car. So difference is about $40k which is acceptable to me. Will try to pick it up today but it’s a 2 hr drive

Going from an M3 that you love to a Cadillac sounds…. Risky. You sure you’ll be happy with the build quality and ergonomics? Have you driven one, if so what are your impressions?

The only reason not to buy a 718 is they offer true shit value. If you have $, the 718 (I’m 90% solo says you) is a superior driver in every way.
I’m a m2 future buyer cause it’s 63k. I want a 991 911T but it’s 100k. Worth it? Only if you have $ |

Since you swap cars often, why not try the CT5 BW. By all accounts it’s wonderful. I’m not a GM guy so highly unlikely I would ever buy one. Great that it’s offered in a manual. Have fun! |

Find a 992 911 Carrera T. Keep the options to a minimum - RAS is the only one you really need. That car is sublime!

I wrote up a long impression of my 5BW experience in the thread that Needsdecalf already linked, so I won't repeat that here. I have owned 4 different Porsches, including a 981 Cayman, and as glorious as the GTS 4.0 probably is, it's just not worth $110K to me, so that would be an automatic no. If you're looking for a larger car to fit the kids while still retaining the manual sports car feel, the 5BW is definitely an option to consider. The dealer that dared to ask $190K even though they "lowered" the markup to $15K over would immediately be off my list. I cannot support that nonsense. But if I were you, and I was potentially in the market for a more pure sports car without any real need for passenger capabilities, I'd pass on the Cayman, keep the M3 and hold out for a Carrera T if you can get an allocation.

I think this pretty much applies to all Porsches. The 911 in any flavor is also ridiculously priced. The Carrera T and s $125K before any options. It easily pushes $140K.

I dunno man. My Carrera T MSRP was $127k with lots of options (Shark Blue paint ($3200), LCA, 360 camera, RAS, yellow belts, 23.7g fuel tank, prep for everything. Might need to check your math.

When was this? Prices jumped $12k or so about 6 months ago. I had a deposit in for $140 that jumped to $152. Base price is now $125 plus delivery.

The new 991 Ts languished unsold and discounted, then they got the Covid 19 treatment now they’re stupid expensive. The 992 is way beyond my means. The other car Porsche couldn’t give away new was the 718 GTS flat four. They too got the Covid 19 treatment and are now selling at 75-80k with 10-20k miles
The M2 is a SCREAMING deal vs Emira and c8 too. |

Ok so your allocation locked before the price hike. Congrats
At these prices an S makes more sense. 379 hp is less than my Z4. Hard for me to justify going from a 503 hp M3 x to a 911t so I got a z and a model y for the same price as the T would have been. |

Coming from a Porsche guy (who will be offing his ‘23 M3 for another Porsche) DO it.
However you’ll forever be jaded. My m3 is legitimately good at everything, but it just isn’t Porsche good. So make the leap! |

Price hike was 8k and yes I got in before it happened. My allocation was from 12/22 so it’s been a long time coming. Car is sublime and I’ve had a X3MC since 2019 with the 503hp and still have it. My wife has a ‘22 M340. I was worried about the lack of power, but it’s perfect. 3250lb is a lot less than a M3 at 3800lbs and you can feel it. Everything about the 911 is superior to either BMW we have or the M3 I test drove for hours. You get in it and immediately feel the difference. It’s worth every penny, but again, you need self control with the options.

If you can swing it, do it! Too many great cars out there to not try them all!
Ya have 3/4 more years to get back into an M |

Who doesn’t love the 911 as they are great cars. Some versions are just greater just like in the bmw world. But the 911 simply isn’t superior (by any reasonable definition) in every way than either bmw you mentioned. Is the Porsche tax worth it? That’s a personal decision. Self control starts with the model… |

At the end of the day, if I’m going to spend $140k on a car, I’d like something more special than a base 911 with performance bits. But that’s just my personal preference. In the grand history of the 911, prices are objectivity the highest they’ve ever been, adjusted for inflation. |

They've gone crazy. Here in Australia a 992 with ZERO options (literally, nothing ticked, standard paint) is AU$313k driveaway (inc. GST, LCT, Stamp Duty, etc.).
Our M3's come pretty loaded as standard in Australia, my G81 was a tad over AU$200k by comparison. |
