C63S Coupe 7:44

The M4 is very quick, which makes it worse that the styling is not universally appreciated, but at least BMW are making incremental improvements.

Make the most of it gentlemen and ladies, before all the ice cars are gone.👍

it'll be faster, there is no question about it. N'ring have plenty of slow/medium speed corners where awd will help it shoot out of corners at a much faster pace. Besides, properly tuned AWD will inspire confidence compared to RWD in same conditions so the driver will be more willing to push the car to its limits.

Those are not all Sport Auto times--- I was personally asking for Sport Auto times to keep as many variables static since they do independent testing. But even then, as mentioned, things just change day to day. But these are not times by the manufacturer which I like because it keeps some bias out.
Here's the list of Sport Auto times for BMW:

8:05 E92 M3 6MT (PSC+)
7:52 F82 M4 DCT (PSS)
7:52,36 F87 M2C DCT (???)
7:50 E46 M3CSL SMG (PSC)
7:43 F87 M2CS DCT (PSC2)
7:42 F82 M4CS DCT (PSC2)
7:37 F82 M4GTS DCT (PSC2)
7:35,90 F90 M5C (P Zero)
7:32,79 G15 M8C (P Zero)
7:30,79 G82 M4C (PSC2)
7:29,57 F90 M5CS (P Zero Corsa)

Other notable mentions:

7:46,70 Porsche 718 Cayman S (???)
7:45,19 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S (???)
7:34,00 Porsche 911 Carrera S (991.2) (???)
7:30,41 Porsche 911 Carrera S (992) (Pirelli P Zero NA1)
7:27,48 Ferrari 812 Superfast (P Zero Corsa)
7:23,77 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS (991.2) (???)

I don't see the full car list, except if you want to go to their YouTube channel and grab each cars individual lap time and compile a list.
Thanks for that! For an M4 to be right there with a Carrera S says a lot.

155mph through the Fox Hole takes some nerve AKA balls of steel, as does topping out at 180mph.

Remember the Top Gear target years back was to do a 10 minute lap - Bridge to Gantry which is some 13 seconds shorter - in a Jag S type diesel

Good time and looks capable.

With downpipes and a map these things are going to be savage

Still can't stand the nose but leaning toward the M3 rather than the M4 to replace my M4 in a few years time - when they aren't bonkers prices second hand!

I bet very few thought this generation was going to be capable to uphold this taken the 992’s leap.

The "slower than the F8x" votes consists of a few members who've made it their mission in life to disparage the grilles lol. Not all, but a few.

I'm actually surprised how few Ferraris are in the top 50-100 spots. Contrast that with Lamborghini and it would appear the rivalry is not going well for Ferrari lol.

Agree. I wonder how much more in terms of seconds the Carrera S would have gotten on cup 2s. I read somewhere that it can be 3–15 seconds on the ring depending on the car. Still, even if it was at the high end of 7-10 seconds, being within that much time on the ring of a C2S is very impressive. As a lot of us G8X detractors have admitted (some less so than me), it's definitely a performer - good on BMW from an engineering perspective - sad on some other fronts that are more subjective to me.

I would take most of those lap times outside of Sport Auto and Nurburgring official certified times, with a huge grain of salt. Why? Because nobody has certified or verified exactly what equipment those cars where running with and it's hard to trust manufacturers claim because they're in the business of selling cars.
This is why now if you want to run an official lap time, you have to go through Nurburgring commission that verifies the lap time and vehicle specs. And this is fairly new policy so most of the cars on that list you're just taking manufacturers word for it.

Sport Auto is independent testing. They have no stake in selling cars or how each car performs.

While the 992 is a better car then the 991 overall, it didn't have as much of a jump in performance as we have seen in the past for the S. For example, the 991.1 S was faster around the ring than the 997 GTS and then the 991.2 S was faster than the 991.1 GTS, but the current 992 S is a bit slower than the 991.2 GTS.

I remember when sub-8 minute times were done only by supercars or highly tuned sports cars.
Crazy how these cars evolved.

Not quite. The M4 was on Cup2 tires while the 992S only on normal performance street rubber. Like for like tires, the 992 is still 7-8 second faster which is still quite a bit.

I recognize that, and Thescout13 already touched on that. I can read. It's still an impressive feat to be that close to a "dedicated" sports car.
