Are they not doing hard tops anymore? Growing up my father loved the hardtop 4 series and M4 and I'd love to see him in one since he just retired. Knowing how things have been going I doubt they are doing hard tops anymore.

I have absolutely no information to back that up. Just getting anxious.

Correct. Too much weight in a hardtop combined with ragtops being that much better now than they were previously. The 4 series rag top is already out and about.

I don't think couple lbs more or less on a convertible are a big deal...

Tbh I would prefer a hard top all day long! According to other sources insurance companies been complaining in a accident with top down in the trunk. Most cars got totalled because of the repair costs.

The F83 was more than 500lbs heavier than the F82... that's more than a couple pounds... I had a 430 hardtop rental for a couple of days not too long ago, sure it was no M, but it was a dog compared to it's sedan and coupe counterparts I've driven before as loaners. The rag top is estimated to be about 200lbs lighter, so still a bit of weight, but a good percentage of that weight is in the motor and other static components vs in the roof.

Aside from that straight-line performance loss due to weight, the difference of center of gravity in general, let alone the change for dealing with top-up vs top-down, is hard to overcome for any chassis.

The F series convertibles sold in the northeast are all mostly AWD.

I followed a 430i xdrive convertible Saturday. Guy lives in my NH, and I just thought: Damn that thing must weigh a lot.

AWD only adds about 100 lbs which is 2.5% on these cars current weights. That won't be noticed while driving.

The convertible part is what adds the weight so if you are already making the compromise might as well go full AWD version.

I think the lines on the ragtops are so much better than the hardtops when the top is up. IMHO, the soft ragtop looks like a purposed design and the hardtop looks like an afterthought. M4 vert will bring sexy back during top up days.

It will be AWD only.

In any case, early feedback from 4 series convertible owners say the noise is remarkably low when the roof is up; it's more quiet than a F32 coupe. Not sure whether that will transfer to the M4, but still.

Relax, the car is on schedule. I have also been waiting almost a year to order one, as I declined to accept a EOP 2021 F83 comp last June that had options missing after the COVID status 111/112 purge by BMW USA last May.

This new model doesn't have a hardtop which I think is ridiculous.
