It's not hate, it's disappointment based on what BMW decided to deliver based on the budget they had and the heritage of the BMW 3.0 CSL.

Price of course is crazy but no use trying to make sense of it. People pay for exclusivity and that’s just how it goes.

I just think it’s badass. The grille is amazing. The wheels are amazing. It’s mostly carbon fiber. It’s the most powerful inline six ever from a company famous for inline sixes. The paintwork is super custom. It’s just awesome. I’m sure it could be better but I’m tickled that it even exists.

And how cool is this dude out driving it? Let’s get that guy to cars and coffee.

For me I’m saving my disappointment for the new 6K pound M5 with an underbite they’re going to charge like $150K for.

You flabbergast me, really. We're talking about a 800k$ BMW, not a ford fiesta with some distinct striping. It's already abundantly clear I'am the poor guy around here.

I’m not even convinced most buyers of this car approach it as an investment. Some may. I think you recognize it has return potential but if not it’s just one more toy.

They like it, they can afford it (obviously!) and have enough cred with BMW to get on the list to buy one.
If they make money on it if they sell it, well that’s a bonus.
… and their value metric is on a very different scale.

I don’t think it’s hate…in my case is just disappointment at a paint job that doesn’t do justice to the car.
I would LOVE to see the car in some of the classic ///M colors (Macao Blue, Imola Red, Dakar Yellow…even Alpine White) without those stripes.
I feel it just distracts from the car, maybe offer the striping as an option.
But, that is just my personal taste and anyhow…I can’t afford an $800K car!

Look at all those specials from the car manufacturers that pays the tribute to the past and celebrate for the future, all of these were manual shifting,rear wheel drive coupes, Alfa Romeo has the SWB Zagato, Aston Martin has it called Valour and Porsche announced the 911 ST
Guess what? BMW has its 50 year anniversary using one of the most iconic names of the brand CSL and created a $800,000 moded M4 ?

BUT.

Compared to the concept that BMW initially did which was absolutely jaw dropping - which if I had a spare million or two lying around - would have defo placed an order for one, this unfortunately is an extremely lame attempt at a super special edition.

I have no doubt that a millionaire who's into paying 600k for one of these - would also pay double that - had it looked exactly like the concept presented.

For me the CSL just looks so average. And cost is relevant - even at 200k I'd say it's overpriced.

If I had to pick - I'd rather take 6 BMW M cars over one 1 3.0 CSL.

Or like one user mentioned - the Z8 - infinitely looks and feels more special.

Ther one in Spain was actually sold via auction to give everyone a chance to bid for it, so there are many people that like this car.

I for one totally get what they did as a Hommage, the devil is in the details of the car and how it went from Concept to reality. I have no comment about value and price, it is what it is…..
