Haven’t been here in awhile, but I had the Michelin Alpin 5 winters put on (on OEM 19’s front and rear) and they are superb. Much quieter and more cush than the summer Pirellis that it came with.

Just drove hours to Fargo and back in snow and ice. Michelin Alpin 5s. The tires were unbelievable and really nice on the dry days as well. If you live and drive in the snow don't lie to yourself and say all seasons are good enough. Go to tire rack and look at the testing. Get a wheel tire combo and change them out in fifteen minutes yourself. If you never had real winter tires wait for a snow day and you will be amazed.

Thank you for your post as I'm going to order from the Canadian dealer. A question, I plan to get the 245/40R19 tires, Michelin ICE-Snow. What are your thoughts on the narrower tire? I honestly don't need the performance handling in the winter. Thanks. |

Perhaps already discussed somewhere around here, but does anyone know why TireRack seems to have so few wheel and winter tire combo options for the G8x?
(When I looked a few days ago, they were also out of TPMS sensors, so just ongoing supply issues?)

Technician replied later that day. His name was Jeremy. He verified that the Blizzak LM-32 (2018 close out from Tire Rack) would fit. |

Alpin 5
It's what came on BMW 829 wheels from Calgary BMW Sorry I was not referring to the European S version of the tire but instead using the s for purposes of expressing plural Lux in rural MN |

I've been in the snow and ice several times now and the car delivers the same sense of unfailing grip that is does on dry pavement.
I'm running Vredstein Wintracs and they are performing well. They do feel a little squirmy on pavement if you push them much and I would imagine you could destroy them pretty quickly if you were so inclined. The last three miles to our house climbs 700' with several switchbacks. When snow packed or icy, you can push the back end out just a bit with the throttle and the car will hold a beautiful gentle drift around the corner without the electro nannies intervention. Absolutely awesome so far. Acceleration from on stop on slick surfaces is equally impressive, the car just finds grip, and goes leaving everything else behind. This really gets to the guys in the heavy duty trucks and they go blazing past a mile and so later and you have a rabbit to follow. Perfect! |

In response to your question, I got the rims from Goldwing Autocare in Ottawa. There are probably a few places in the GTA where you can get Avant Garde wheels. Should you feel inclined to travel to Ottawa to get your rims, Goldwing did a great job with advice and installation of the rims/wheels on my G80. I would definitely recommend them. |

I need to hit the easy button here b/c my car is coming early.
Looking to grab the BMW set of Michelin Pilot Alpin 5's with black 829 wheels. I see some discussion in the thread but search isn't giving me any results. Anyone pleased with this setup, or any issues? Thanks! (I had sorta planned to go with performance all seasons b/c we don't get a ton of snow but this is easy.)

Yep! Couldn’t pass up that deal. Given how these cars chew tires I figured they’d wear out before they age out.
So far so good, but only have about 20 miles on them. Quieter than pirellis, ride is maybe a bit stiffer or atleast boomier on impacts, turn in is slower but still good for a winter tire.
