Would you still buy an F82 over G82?

Would it be stupid to order a new F82 now? I still believe its the best looking M so far. I cant just get over the fact that it will be end of production in few months. I don't like the new G82 at all.

Any thoughts before I hit the trigger? I would like also to keep it for long time ( vintage collector's ).

Any tips will be appreciated.

Well, production ended in June on the F82, so you certainly wouldn't be ordering new one now...

No, i'm only really interested in the G87 M2C(S) sometime in the future after 2025.

By then used f8x prices will be low enough for those interested in that car after the LCI G82 is out, but I would also not buy the F82 over a G82 generally given the engine and performance potential matter more to me and i don't mind the grille.

Most importantly, I think the depreciation rate on f82s will really start accelerating soon if it follows the patterns of every other prior model year car ever made, despite how loud grille haters have been here, and you will be able to find used / prior leased ones for bargains from g82 upgraders in 1-2 years.

Disclaimer: please don't rage at me....this is generally how depreciation works on any durable product over time.

tldr: stupid from an asset valuation perspective, not dumb if you love the car and are into specifically that model.

It's not stupid if you say you like the F82 and don't like the G82 at all. Sounds like you've already made up your mind and are just looking for some devils advocate opinions (of which I have none)

there will be some depreciation in the beginning but I think if you are going to keep it 8+ years it should be fine and may even increase in value later on. The only question is why not get low mi pre-owned.

If it's for vintage collection, personally, I'd get my hands on a more special variant of the F8x gen like the CS/GTS. You'll lose a lot of money on a new F82 (base/competition) since it's nothing special.

Since it's your money, I think you should go for what you like (which for you, undoubtedly is the F8x) irrespective of whether or not the newer G8x is faster. If someone makes you feel like you made the wrong choice by not going for the newer car, tell them to piss off!

P.S.: I don't like anything on the G8x. I'm glad I got an F82 CS.

I would also add I think the C8 corvette is about to shake up the sports car market, I envision many non limited edition sports cars in the future losing value rapidly and mfgs having to push out much better cars as a result of competition.

GM is losing money on every sub $85k C8 and $60k starting for a NA mid engine sports car is just too good value.

To Ben's point, It is highly unlikely that a non CS/GTS f82 will increase in value given how many are out there and I think speculating on which car will ultimately have the most collectors value is a fool's errand and time is on your side as the buyer.

I'd personally never do it, but if it works for you then order and be merry.

The C8 has already shaken the market. Production is sold out through mid 2021 and I personally know several buyers under 40, contrary to the over 60 average for buyers of the C7. It’s just a whole lot of bang for the buck, and a bargain compared to the G8x, unless you need a back seat.

However, the rumor that GM is loosing money on units under $85k is just that, a bad rumor. There is no way that they are loosing a penny on any of them, just making a lot more on highly optioned cars, just like BMW does.

If you hold off for a few months, you'll be able to see the G8x in person and make a more informed decision. I've had three F8x's and enjoyed them all, but my guess is that you'll regret the decision when the new boys in town start rolling the streets.

I'd wait for the AWD version. The F8x really struggle to put the power down. As Chris Harris said recently, the F8x would really benefit from AWD.

I find that rumor reasonable if you assume there were R&D costs to redesign the C8 and they have to amortize those costs over each vehicle sold but who knows.

It will be super exciting to see what happens to other mfg product lines when GM is really able to meet demand. Hoping that means prices falling across the board for sports cars and newer vehicles having better value propositions.

I would, to me the F82 not only looks better, it's much lighter and doesn't have the wide torque threshold of the Gx. Seen taxes on CO² explode, it's also usefull to see that CO² emission of Fx is 15% lower.

I would nevertheless, try to find a pre-owned that already took a big part of the depreciation hit but is still prestine conditioned.

My parents (certainly in the over 60 crowd) have had one on order since they were announced and are still waiting on production.

I'd absolutely consider one, but I'm not sure how it would be as a DD feel it would be a little too overt and I'd be a little self conscious driving into places like work. At least the BMWs other than the Roundel and occasional flashy color can go a little more under the radar.

As for F8x vs G8x I have a hard time passing up on new tech and even updated looks, questionable as they may be although growing on me. Older models just look, well, old, to me now.

Yeah, they leave cars up there after production ends often. This was the case with the i8 recently as well.

The last M4 CS was 2/2020, last regular M4 was 6/2020 (answer to the question links to the future models, though, which has since been edited):
https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1584418

It looks like the official last day was 6/8/2020. They closed down the line to retool for the G22 which went into production in July. I believe there was a post a few months ago about the last 2 cars to roll off the line, but I can't seem to find it now.

I dont think so. Awd is set for m light versions. The pure m are intended to be rwd or awd with rwd option like happens to current m5 and will with m3/m4. If the new m2 only have awd option then wont be a good treat at all!!
