GT-R, TTS, RS3, etc. would all be better choices, IMO.

Everyone shoots for the KING. That's why people compare it to the GTR

Also, the F8X lost weight coming from the E9X platform. The G80 is going in the opposite direction. The G80 will only have 50 more hp and its adding another 500lbs. The numbers are just not there... Last edited by natedog7700; 12-06-2020 at 10:24 PM.. |

F8X rated at 425, closer to 500 F8X comp rated at 450, closer to 525 G80 rated at 475, closer to 550? G80 comp rated at 500, closer to 575? Both inline 6's so these engines should mimic each other on the dyno but with the S58 putting out a little more power. Matter of fact, the S58 is already out in the XM series so maybe i should look into the power numbers! EDIT: The S58 puts out 490 in Comp form, the S55 puts out 450whp in Comp form. Difference of about 50 crank HP just like i was saying. To conclude, i would be shocked if the new G80 in rwd form pulls more then a tenth or two better than the F8X in the 1/4 mile. The G80 will most likely improve in a number of ways, but straight line speed wont be one of them (for the rwd model). Last edited by natedog7700; 12-06-2020 at 10:21 PM.. |

No, not even in a straight line. It'll be closer than what most people would probably think.

You also mentioned 500 lbs difference between the F8X and G8X. I doubt the real life difference will be that high for an equally equipped RWD version. Many of us are patiently waiting.

My point is, the G80 will likely improve on a number of things, straight line speed will not be one of them. Its likely that the Competition package F8X will pull on the non Comp G80 M3. Thats how close these cars will be. Last edited by natedog7700; 12-07-2020 at 12:08 PM.. |

I'm interested to see how the new suspension and tire setup compares in launches vs. the F80 especially when comparing manual vs manual transmission. |

I didn't say the G8X RWD will smoke the F8X RWD in a roll race or even from a dig. I was saying it'll depend on how good its launch control is going to be. We'll have to wait for Matt Watson from Carwow to tell us "what exactly happened". The AWD will gain more weight but launch control will give it much better quartermile times. From a roll I don't think it'll pull much, if any, on a stock F8X.

Let's just wait and see lol, way too much speculation going on here regrading performance against the F80. It's never wise to jump to conclusion lol. If G80 ends up out performing the F80, there will be yet another rant lol. I too is disappointed regarding the weight since I wasn't expecting the G80 to weigh more than my RWD M340i. Also, would have preferred BMW to keep the DCT in the G80 versus utilizing the ZF8 since these things would have helped to distinguish the M3 from the G20 as well as add to its unique character.

First of all, the GTR is in a different class, you rarely see cross shoppers for a M3 vs a GTR. The GTR is rough, loud and has no back seats (realistically speaking) and its interior is trash. BMW guys just want it all, they do want the straight line speed. They also want the luxury card, the twisty card, and perhaps the biggest of all, the name. you can be seen in a dodge challenger but wheres the name in that picture. Where is the twisty in Dodge? Its non existent, the BMW guys DO care about straight line speed, its one of the most intoxicating feelings and its pretty alpha male to be faster than all your buddies in their peasant Ford/Dodge muscle cars. The TTS and RS3 are nice, but are not faster, they just launch harder with the AWD producing better 1/4 mile times. My point is, for the money the S55 is a solid performer for straight line speed compared to other vehicles out there if you still want a good all around practical car. A M5/RS7 etc. would be better but those outclass a M2 and cost more. Last edited by natedog7700; 12-07-2020 at 08:01 PM.. |
