Dealership requiring permaplate and footprint?

As title states, had to pay 599 for permaplate(wasn't actually applied) and 200 for footrint (done at Port to prevent international theft). CA stated no way to avoid, just checking if this sounds typical?

Nope, not at all.

Don’t know what a permaplate is, is it a TX thing? The footprint thing seems like a dealer profit add-on, like window etching.

So non-typical I've never even heard of those things. It is typical that dealerships play games.

I live in Texas, never heard of it.

The footprint thing I can’t find anywhere, but they both are dealer scams. Probably cost the dealership pennies.

Dealerships suck. I'd have more respect for them if they just said:

"We are tacking on $800 to make more money. With the current supply constraints, we think that's fair."

But B.S. add ons!? Ugh

The only footprint would be from my foot leaving the dealership!!

$200 stickers? Maybe this is what they are talking about.

I remember when I first started buying cars, the undercoating for mitigating rust was an add on from the finance department. It all turned out to be a sham but I am sure many fell for it. Now it sounds like there is no option. Bmw tax

Yep, seems like it's similar to the acid-etching of VINs that's been around for decades. Literally costs the dealership almost nothing.

There is. Walk out. I've never paid for these BS items, never will. Just tell me it's going to be $800 over MSRP, don't tell me I have to buy BS.

Wasn't allowed to turn down when I asked if could. Was already in a rush and not trying get hostile on happy day after waiting since July 15 for delivery. Finance guy also got me by starting ultimate care +1 at $3k then bring down to 2500, which is 2099 on bmw website. Can cancel all based on texas law within 60 days but disappointed in my dealers ethics.

You are "allowed". Just say no, then start walking out. They will change their mind quickly. Stories like this are the reason they pull this stuff.

Not today, there'd be someone in line behind him to take it without questioning the dealer tactics.

That's a decent point. That's why its good to get an itemized, out the door all in price (including financing/leasing terms if applicable) before you order the car. Have the $800 B.S. add on argument then, not when your car finally is ready to be picked up.

This whole independent dealership model is just so awful from a customer standpoint.

If you check my very first post here, it was about my CA saying couldn't discuss finance until cars in hand lol. First bmw and custom order experience.

Yeah, they say a lot of things. That's probably only number 1,200 on the list of crazy things they say. Having a backup lender ready to go at pickup time is a good thing to do. As Cane said, walking out might not be a good bluff these days, but using a different lender or paying cash is.

Ha ha. How true. This is why dealerships need teams of lobbyists and pay off local politicians to keep their business model. No way most would choose this purchase method if we had a choice.

I've seen that movie but didn't click in the moment. I'm just glad didn't pay markup on msrp or apr.

You did. $799 over to be exact. Not too bad in today's market, but definitely not MSRP.
