Thank you!
I wish they will add electric turbo to spool the low RPM. Maybe next generation

The column in the chart that lists 0-100 hm/h in 4.3s is clearly labeled "F80/F82" which means it is for the outgoing/current generation models. This information is used only as a basis for comparison to the new X3/X4 M. There is no performance data available for the G8x M3/M4 yet.

I'm not sure if I missed something, but is there any information regarding CO2 emissions for these new engines?
Belgium adds a tax based on the CO2 emissions of the engine, which amounts to around €5k for the F8x. |

It's not necessary to hit 500hp with this engine. And the last thing people want is another maintenance item to think about, even just filling up a tank with water.
Perhaps a future M4 CSL will take advantage of water injection to boost output up to around 600hp. |

Says that it's ULEV 70... don't know how that translates for your country's specific laws... but I know it shows be "greener" than the outgoing model

Maximum engine speeds of "the S58 up to 7500rpm." On cars with torque converters, the engine speeds will be limited to 7200rpm. So it seems they at least designed this engine to mate with a manual transmission. Hopefully...

Looks like a solid engine. However, disabling piston oiling in favor for fuel efficiency worries me a little. The dual HPFPs and mechanical water pump are huge plusses in my book!

Pretty cool they had the room to fit the intake box on top of the engine, although it makes me wonder if any additional turbo lag is noticed with the amount of intake piping for this engine (vs. the B58).
Seems they also moved the powerband up in the RPM range a bit vs. the S55; about ~500-700 RPM. I wonder how that'll make it "feel" below 2500 RPM vs. the outgoing M3/M4.

It's probably because they are using larger turbochargers for more power. There's no way of getting around bigger turbos for more power leading to turbo lag. That's why something like a McLaren has a lot of turbo lag and a car like the BMW 330i does not. |

Good point on the bigger turbo vs lag but according to the document: "The S58 engine has a twin-turbocharger system using mono-scroll turbochargers as also used on the S55 engine." (pg 69). Leads me to think the turbos aren't too different between S55 & S58.

More lag and less power off-boost, but potential for higher boost levels
