Hi just curious i got a new Software update for my G81 in My Bmw App 03/2024.40.
Have anyone done the update and knows what will be updated? I can only see that its something about the driver assistance system.

Likely nothing you can see, hear, or feel. A quick Google search indicates this version has been pushed since late March to other models (X series SUVs and I series electrics via the dealership). Looks
like OTA started last week. The last update 11/2023.50 didn’t change anything perceptible to my car and I suspect the rest of the M models. In fact if memory serves, the only software update that gave any impressionable changes was 07/2022 with exhaust burbles and transmission changes. (debatable I know, don’t flame me Bimmerpost &#128521.

If there was something about this update that other owners considered noteworthy we would like have heard by now.

It seemed like 2 updates within a month of each other if not weeks. Just got it on thr x7 LCI

Mine is 03/2024.25 so this is even a newer revision.

Might be European specific or based on equipment, so may not actually be newer.

Same just updated mine also to 03/2024.40. Was only a few weeks ago that I got 11/2023!
I really wish they'd put a little effort into the change log to see what the updates provide. Car feels and sounds exactly the same.

Yep. My coding had been in place for like 2.5 weeks and now I have to do it again. M1/2 preferences did not revert as with some of the earlier updates, but ASD is definitely enabled again.

Anyone update using CarPlay in Canada?

For a few days, my CarPlay wouldn't allow me to scroll through all artists when driving. Only gave me my most recently added... similar to how Porsche, Audi, Ford, etc. limits you while moving.

It went back to normal the next day, but now there's another update ready to install, but I'm worried that it'll go back to the limited list...

Seems like a small thing to worry about, but every time I get out of a BMW and into another car, the CarPlay pisses me off and I end up using my phone to find music.

You can go to privacy and change the artting where you can individually choose what you want and not want.

Not sure how it’s possible but my car just completed the update and now the shifts in manual mode are considerably more crisp it feels much better

Ok that was weird. I had to recode ASD and some of the little things (close windows from fob, disable legal notice, etc), which I expected. But all of the components of anti-dazzle were still properly configured.

If you removed the activation code for ASD it will not come back after an OTA update. It will only come back if you restore a backup or if the dealer flashes it. So after my last update I didn’t have to recode ASD off.

Anyone know if you can still disable OTA updates in iDrive 8.5? Would assume so..

This "Update" bollocksed up my radio it will no longer play Sirius additional channels (streaming) now I have a straight satellite radio as opposed to the 360 L functionality. Also it is defaulting to Channel 1 when the car starts rather than the the channel that was on when it shut off.

I have not done a hard restart of the system yet. Can software be uninstalled and reinstalled with ID 8? I am thinking "factory reset" only effects settings and does not change software but have no idea practically.

Anyone else have any issues?

I think 03/2024.40 includes some updates for EU cars, to address incoming EU regulation changes regarding driver notifications when cars are exceeding the speed limits. The notifications include flashing speed limit icons on the display screen and HUD and an audible "bong" sound which has to be manually turned off each time the car is started, to avoid it making the audible noise (annoying AF!!)

That said, I have a UK car and thankfully we're no longer in the EU, so even though my car was updated to this version the other day, it hasn't changed at all following the update, so I can't confirm 100% this was the main basis of the update
