V1 was rated best picking up radar sooner.

I can't even bring myself to adjust all the advanced settings on the r4, either; I just need something to warn me about speed traps.
With waze on the car, pretty secure motoring.

Idk how, never looked, but my car warns me of speed traps. All I have is my iPhone and my car. No specific app, no idea what is doing it but the messages pop up on the car’s infotainment and warn me and it is a really nice feature. Saved me a ticket for sure.

Never looked into it, no idea if it’s bmw doing it or Siri. CarPlay is integrated well so it could be either.

Does everyone’s car not have this functionality?

It tells you about traffic accidents, etc, but speed traps pop up too and it seems to be community reported… it asks if the trap is still there and if the info was relevant.

I’ve had V1s in all my cars for the last 10 years and I think they’re one of the best out there.
I got my first Gen 2 for the m4 and only downfall is that the gesture control signals cause the laser alarm to go off so I had to cover the overhead emitter.

We got an X7 in February and still not resides what to try next that is not affected by this.

Same for me. Yet to have a laser alert but I’m not sure how many are in use in Arizona. Waze + Redline + Escort Live has been a great combo for me.

I would just cover the rear facing laser detector on the V1 Gen2. If your shot by laser from the rear all it does is tell your you could be getting a speeding ticket.

How do I find the rear laser sensor?

Have had no complaints with the Uniden R8. Does everything I want and I’ve hardly started to tap into what it can do but been too lazy

That’s true for all “laser detectors”. I say that in case people reading this thread are not aware. Only protection against lasers are jammers and even then YMMV.

I was big on Valentine but they didnt work well in the M5 and I got a ton of false alarms due to the gesture control and those damn Mazdas LOL. Went with a Radenso Pro M and it was really good. Gave that one to my wife and got a Randenso DS1 and its honestly incredible. It learns where false alarms are to avoid them, and has VERY few false alarms on the road. Its probably saved once or twice and crazy enough I think they even pay a ticket if you get nailed. Better yet their customer service is solid, this one had a little cord issue and without question they sent me a new one. Awesome company.

How do you do mirrortap. Is it plug and play or do you need to splice some wires?

Anderson posted one of the vids I referenced on YouTube. Got the kit from blendmount. Works great and so clean. There was one clip that was a pita but when you tilt the cover in the right way it
Pops loose.

I have done some research and just ordered the Redline 360c and blend mount for the M4 CSL. I have had an older Redline in my daily for years.
I believe it is currently best overall on Vortex with Uniden R8 and V1 Gen2 a close second and third. Cannot go wrong with any of those.
I also use Waze for any highway driving. Cops but also road hazards...
Always speed limit or not much higher in my neighborhood. Kids around… so no need for a radar detector (or Waze) there. Just fun to see where cops are hiding but I often turn it off close to home.

If I were to buy one today, redline 360c probably for me. The uniden r8 is slightly better I believe but the redline is prettier and I love the ez mag mount that escort uses.

I ended up going with Redline 360c wavyyyy .
I bought mirror tap wire and set that up. However decided to just use supplied suction cup mounting bracket from Escort. It is very sturdy and very easy to take the radar down if needed.

Congrats. After reading all the comments, I went with the R8. Thanks for making this thread.

R7 here. Did a ton of research and once directional arrows proliferated, it was an easy choice. But can't go wrong with the top picks these days, honestly.
