Trickle Charger

My G80 is not my daily driver. In the 9 months I've had the car I've put 3500 miles on it taking drives on weekends.

Because of weather and other commitments I have not been able to drive the M3 for three weeks, and likely won't for another two.

Is there a BMW approved or recommended trickle charger anyone is using?

FWIW I tried to search but repeatedly got an error.

I started this thread a couple months ago. I ended up buying the Noco Genius 2 amp. I liked it so much I asked for the 5 amp version for Christmas. They both do all the different battery types. There are a number of good chargers though.

My dealer includes a trickle charger with the new car, for $599 (CAD). For the past few cars I've had them remove it from my order as I was developing a collection, ha! Also, there are very good after market chargers available for a much better price. (CTEK, can be found on Amazon)

This all said, I rarely have used my trickle charger. When I parked my car in an unheated garage and travelled for more than a week in the winter I used it as a preventative measure. My car now is parked in a heated underground parkade, I've never had an issue starting my car after not using it for a week or two.

I got a BMW charger for ~ $80 online. Came in a very nice BMW logo case, as well. If we get weather forecast for a week where I'll be driving my CR-V, will use it. Keeping LI battery fully charged just makes sense.

I got the BMW changer for free with the purchase from the dealer. It looks like a CTEK but BMW branded that supports the lithium battery. Have been using it this winter.

Ok, I should be working with your dealer, ha! My dealer is constantly trying to add on extras: Chargers, security etching, mats, increased Freight & PDI, etc. I have to watch them like a hawk!

At any rate, given the constant systems running even the car is parked & locked, trickle charging is a good idea 👍

Given how ridiculously much we get charged for freight and PDI in Alberta they can afford giving away the winter floor mats and a charger. 😀

Oh for sure! My dealer tried to charge me $1200 more than what is indicated on the web configurator. They arbitrarily add things like chargers, mats, security, etc. It's seems a bit like bank fees, they promote rates and services, but I think a big part of their income is derived from all those somewhat hidden or at least not originally transparent fees & charges.

Nonetheless, having a charger is a good idea 💡

CTEK Lithium US (56-926) is what I’ve used for years on my F80 and now F90/G82. It’s been solid.

The BMW one is very reasonable and can do both lead acid and lithium. CTEK is also go. Noco is a bit lower quality. Regardless of what you get, please make sure it supports lithium.

I'd like to buy that one from BMW.

My dealer has a $99 4 amp charger in stock - anyone have experience with this one? https://www.shopbmwusa.com/PRODUCT/1...LLIGATOR-CLIPS

BMW sell their own branded one, probably a C TEK charger

Heres mine.

I followed the advice of Mike Miller from the BMW club magazine, Roundel, and purchased the Deltran battery tender plus. It was less expensive ordering on Amazon and really easy to hook up. I'm really looking forward to unhooking and going for a joy ride -- just need some warmer and drier roads!

I think if you check, that charger is only for wet cell and maybe AGM batteries, not our LiO batteries.

I have 3-4 of these (Noco) with different amperage’s for various cars and boats. Have been using the 1A model on my G80, works like a champ:
