iDrive touchscreen deletion

Looks like the touch-screen function is being removed from all cars produced from week 1 of Jan (every 3 series, 5 series, 4 series and M3/M4/M5)

There is goodwill gesture for all cars affected, this is not rectifiable afterwards. Seems you will also loose the backup assistant & gesture control features.

BMW genius advises it might be rectified by the end of the month anyones guess at this point in time.

This is in addition to code 6P1 which will be resolved via software updates.

Not sure if it's the same elsewhere?

We were told this wouldn't effect M cars last time

Mine went into production today. I'm not seeing any deletions or codes on my build, now anyway.

Was told by Genius and confirmed by SA that M cars are included.

Bit of a pain information keeps changing and updating.

Losing the touchscreen on the M3 is a pretty huge blow, especially without a plan to restore it later. One of the main reasons I'm looking at this car is the touch Android Auto interface versus older M3's. Wonder what the "goodwill gesture" for this feature omission would be, it'd have to be significant for me to continue considering an M3.

The goodwill here is £500. Not good enough.

A few folks have mentioned they have only managed to see full spec list once production is complete. Keep checking on a weekly basis.

I pulled a random number, but $500 is unacceptable. Think of the inverse for a moment; if BMW charged $X for upgrading your car's non-touch infotainment to a touchscreen and enabling all touch related features, backup assistant & gesture control features. There's no way BMW would only charge $500 for this upgrade.

You're right, but the converse isn't the way this works. They'll give the nominal concession or you can walk away. That's how it works.

Man this is a sh@t time to buy a car....

1. MSRP or higher
2. Wait for 4+ months
3. Lose options AND standard features while you wait (decontenting)
4. Interest rates are going up as we wait on our cars
5. If you push back on anything, the dealer will gladly sell YOUR car to the next guy in line who will probably pay an ADM
6. MSRPs are rising as well.
7. Crappy communication from the manufacturer

Makes me want to buyout my lease and sit on the sidelines and wait for this whole thing to blow up/over....
