I'm new to xDrive, is there an upcoming base M4 xDrive model or is competition required?

There is no base model xDrive, it's competition only.

Dumb question, when placing an order. Do they run your credit when you put down a deposit for a build or when the car arrives?

Its dealer specific. Some dealers want it up front, and I wouldn't think of running it, unless they had an allocation for you. My dealer had an allocation, already in 112 status, that I got for MSRP, and I sat down, ordered, received my production number, and loaded the order into MyBMW garage, all before I left the building, and they never asked me to run credit. Of course, my car was over $100k, and they never even asked for a deposit.

If you are going to finance through BMWFS, its somewhere in-between.

There are unforeseen delays due to parts shortage, dealers i spoke to were ok to run the credit after my build is complete and once i fall within the 90 days (rate lock window for east coast customers) delivery window.

Geez some dealer you got! Thanks for the response guys.

I guess it is dealer specific because before I place an order, we talked numbers. Once we reach an agreement, they run my credit and wait to see if I get approved. All this before placing an order. It's weird because we took so long to finalize numbers, that it's only good for 90 days.. the car will take 6-8 months to get here. So we have to run the credit again within a 90 day window of the car arriving.

Yeah, that does suck. There's only so much they can do, for people. Alot can change, financially, to someone in 5-6 months.

Got an allocation and ordered a G82 BSM Fiona Red xDrive with CFP.

It's supposed to start building March 11-16. Not sure what "Build Week" it is. Anyone have a clue how long it will take if it starts March 11-16?

This thread gives you a comprehensive overview of the whole process.

BIMMERPOST Guide to Ordering and Tracking your BMW https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1811516

Build week is when car completes production. This section has seperate discussions by build week and you can join them for more updates. In the current market with component shortages, every build is unique and might face a different issue. No one will be able to guess the actual timeline, whole process might be 3 months or even 9.

Production is around 2 weeks. Ask your CA for the "build week" as that indicates when production should be complete. Then the car has to wait for a carrier to the port, wait for a ship, etc.

I guess it's a 2-3 month process from production beginning to delivery (given there aren't any delays at any step). West coast deliveries are 30 days on a ship, whereas East coast deliveries are 2 weeks or so. These are rough estimates from all the research I have been doing and the cool guide that is stickied on this forum.

My dealer ran my credit when i put in the order. But, I assume this will vary by dealer.

I would recommend you stay on top of your order status. I posted on a different thread where my M3 Competition xDrive was scheduled for production on Week 6 (i.e. 2/7 - 2/11). Then, it was delayed to week 8 and, as of today, it has no scheduled production week.

I did not alter my order or anything. But, according to my sales person, there are major parts shortages. To be honest, I am hearing and reading all types of reasons for delay and some don't even make sense.

I hit up several dealers and all have different estimated delivery dates, from 6 months to a year! some ask for $1k deposit and others $5k. seems each dealer gets a different allocation from BMW based on their sales numbers. i'd want to go with the dealer that can get me my M3 the soonest although a delivery date past July means a 2023 not 2022. how can i tell which dealer gets more allocations as they all tell you the same story????

No one really knows how many and when any dealer would get an allocation.

I know several M certified dealers who does decent volume and have not received any G80 allocation from june 2021. You just have to add your name to multiple dealer waitlists and wait patiently.
