Time to Delivery?

Would anyone be willing to share how long it took between you telling your Salesperson "Ok, I'm ready. Let's do this." to the time you took delivery of your M3/M4? I'm mainly looking for orders within the last 6 to 8 months (the time of COVID/parts/chip shortage).

Please and thank you!

It will be highly variable. Better data points are time from production complete to receiving the car.

Currently, allocations are very scare. Some wait months for one, others find an available allocation.

So, let's start with this. Do you have an allocation? If not, what place in line are you ?

My local dealership assures me that if I want the car, they can get me an allocation,

So then lets do what you said. From time of "Allocation given, production assigned" to delivery.

Yeah, many say that. Beware. If you place an order, make sure you get a production number. No production number, no allocation. Since they say they can get you one, and not they have one is a red flag. Expect to wait months for an allocation.

30-45 days after completion, your car will be at the destination port. Most get there with at least one missing part. Your car will sit at the destination port until the missing part(s) arrive and can be installed. Wait times are anywhere from a few days to a few months, with most falling in the 2-4 week range. Then the car will be transported to your dealership.

Net, net, anywhere from 40 - 100 days from the time your car is produced it will be in your driveway.

The biggest challenge is securing an allocation.

I told my dealer in April but I wanted an xdrive model. I’m thinking they became available late may? Took a cpl months to get allocation , got production # 7/22 - started production 9/22. Spent 8 weeks after production at the factory in QC- car arrived at Baltimore port last Wednesday. There is the RAM stop sale which I hope takes less than a month but could take 2 months or longer - looking like it will be about 9-10 months for me .

This is for an Individual M5C:

- Allocation and Production # - June 12th

- Originally Week 27 Build Slot - pushed back several times to Week 45 and eventually started Production in week 43.

- Built in a week and was in QC for 1/2 day.

- Arrived in Baltimore December 10th and has been there ever since.

So …. 7 months and counting since receiving allocation and Production # and nearing two months since the car was completed.

Hope this helps.

If everything goes smoothly, about 3 to 3.5 months is the fastest you can get your car

If no stop sale then 2-3 months from when you get your vin. I got an allocation 11/6 and arrived at US port 1/3. However I have the Ram stop sale so it can take another month. If I didn’t have the stop sale then I can assume I would of already taken delivery of it

I highly doubt anyone gets their car that fast right now unless they are in Europe and even then unlikely. I’d say the short end of the timeframe is 4-5 months . It does depend on how you option the car, I suppose it’s possible for a base “stripper” build.

I don’t know. It can definitely happen. Assuming my stop sale doesn’t last longer than a month which I highly doubt will, I’m right at the 3.5 months mark.

Plenty of thread on this topic. People in every specific build weeks are tracking their updates with specific dates.

Here are few threads which might help you.

I ordered during the first week of August and had to wait for a production spot. Car was produced second week of October. After shipment it was held for a stop sale at VPC in Greer. Took Performance Center Delivery December 21st.

I've never heard of a "WL#" but my CA told me that I am next on the list. There are 2 others ahead of me at 150 or higher that they must sell first be for mine can proceed to 111. If I understand correctly, that means that those cars would have to be delivered to the customers first. Since it takes typically 1 or more weeks awaiting a ship in Bremerhaven 4 to 5 weeks on the ship after it leaves Germany to get to Port Hueneme and another week at the VPC at Oxnard before they are trucked to the dealer here in Sacramento. On the bright side, if my car doesn't go to production until March, it'll get those 50th anneversery badges.

WL # = waitlist number. You say you're # 1 now, you certainly didn't start out in August at #1.

I'm next on the list for allocation, and no, I definitely wasn't #1 back in August. The cars ahead of me are already sold and delivered or in production. It took 4 months - 1 day from the time I ordered my F82 back in July 2014 for me to get delivery in November that year.
