I think it’s a plus that I can pull up somewhere in the G82 and onlookers won’t be thinking 50/50 it’s somebody’s grandparents.

M3/M4s bought new have been synonymous with (relatively) young, successful people making moves. If you buy cars to be noticed, that’s a good look IMO.

Best bang for buck of all time.

The corvette.

Rich retired people know what car to get. That’s what I said lol
You have to be rich to buy a vette? Who knew. :

Just saying the rich retired old folks people like associating corvettes with are buying corvettes for a reason. Like they can get any car during their retirement, the last decade or 2 before they see jesus and almost all of them choose a corvette.

Idk of any retired person saying YES i'm finally retired!!! Let me get my forever car, an M3!!!

I wonder if part of that generation is also very partial to the vette? It's life began during the boomer generation and maybe a lot couldn't afford it at the time and now finally can. Seems more iconic to me with the older, say 50's models when it's life began vs what you have today. Just my thoughts, but I get what you're saying.

It's any age group.

I'm on the C8 FB page and every couple of days you have a "first time corvette owner", and they post their 2023 C8.

Kids these days, all they know is the C7, maybe the C6 and the C8. It's a car they want NOW, any generation corvette although most likely C6 and newer.

MIddle age, older people, and retired people choose a corvette as their car of choice for life during retirement. Doesn't matter what generation or variant, it's a corvette. Hell some dude on the forum sold his C7Z and bought a built C6 ZR1. And he's 70 years old.

These cars are more special than people think. Same way as you M lifers think about your M cars. It's the same thing with corvettes. I was just saying older people that others here make fun of, they are getting corvettes. And they have money to get whatever. Could be an M5 or an M3 or whatever. And they are choosing corvettes. It's a special feeling owning an american icon with legendary engines in them.

100%. I have not met a fan base for a car as enthusiastic as the Corvette crowd. Many, MANY of the owners (at least the ones I've interacted with) openly declare they're never selling and will be buried in their Corvettes. The only car they seem to want is a newer Corvette, except for the C8 which is still growing on some of the older guys.

More power to them. I knew pretty early on that the Corvette wasn't going to be a forever car for me, but it was a fun ~2years. I'm more of an M guy.

Well I owned a C5 Z06 and loved it. I was in my mid/upper 20's at the time. Now in my 40's, I do still turn my head at vettes, always have. It's great to have such a great American sports car.

I've always had a corvette for over 2 decades. Starting with the C5.

I had an FD3S rx7 and i wanted something more reliable, more powerful while still giving that "racecar" vibes. The C5 was basically an FD3S on steroids if you compare the 2 side by side.

After that i was hooked. And owned a corvette ever since. I'll never NOT have a corvette. Even when GM goes EV and the C9 is EV, i'll probably get that as well but i'll always own a corvette with a V8 in it. The C8Z will be my forever car. But the GM small block pushrod engines are so fucking good, i might want to at least have one of those as well for life. Who knows.

I'm not an M lifer. The M3 is my first BMW. It's a great car. I totally get why people would want to keep owning them. But it's not for me. When this lease is up idk what i'm going to get. Maybe another M3, maybe an M5 or i may step away and try something else, i don't know yet.

Sounds like you feel the same way about the M3 as I felt about the Vette. My C7 was my first Vette and there was so much to like about it. But I just knew I wasn't a Vette lifer. Great car though.

Retired and old, yes. “Rich”? Maybe, but I rarely see these folks living a meaningfully aspirational lifestyle. No extravagant homes or anything. Usually just a Corvette parked in suburbia. In fact, the majority of those folks seem to be finally treating themselves after a lifetime of working class living. Far from “adding a Corvette to a small fleet of high-end performance cars” wealth. More like “listened to Dave Ramsey and saved up for 40 years and it’s time to buy that cool-looking car I see on the highway every so often now that the kids are gone.” And more power to them. However, I don’t see how the tastes of these folks have any bearing on the merit of BMW M’s enthusiast performance cars.

I’d say that this demographic overlooking the M3 enhances the M3’s street cred. These folks choosing the Corvette decreases the Corvette’s street cred.

The average optioned C8Z people on the forum are going for, is 140k. Some owners have already taken delivery of the car which set them back 160k. Almost no one is buying a 1LZ C8 z06. The starting price is 106k. BMW M3/M4 starting price is what now? 74k? These people do have the money to get a porsche, BMW, AMG, whatever. They are choosing corvettes.

Corvettes and BMWs are relatively the same price depending on model. Let's not pretend people who buy BMW's are only buying ones that cost 100K+. There are a slew of BMW models that are easily attainable by anyone. Even kids that still live with their parents. The cheapest brand new corvette you can buy now is in the 70s, if you get no options and if you can get it at MSRP. That's the starting price of an M3 no options. And the M3 is the top of the chain. That 70k+ C8 is just an entry level corvette.

Corvette owners that are retired aren't dumb. If they're retired they're not going to blow all their assets and saved money on something ridiculous. They spend it carefully. They are buying corvettes. When they could have gotten something else.

And i said rich not wealthy. There's a difference. Pretty sure they are rich people on this forum too. But you'd be surprised at how "rich" most corvette owners are.

There's tons of closet corvette lovers here but they pretend they hate them lol.

When i'm in the M3, other BMW owners act like shitheads and pretend we're not a "family".

When i'm in my C7Z, now all of a sudden BMW owners want me to rev at the light, they give the thumbs up, they want to race so they can get destroyed by a corvette etc. It's weird

I don't hate vettes. I respect the engineering, the design and the price/performance they bring to the table. I am a car guy first and a bmw fan 2nd. But I do not see myself ever buying one and certainly not my aspirational car for when I retire. My comment is more about why we keep talking endlessly about vettes on this forum. There are many vette forums to do that on.
